Default Good light weight wheels?

Right now, the car has HRE 540Rs (stock wheel size with stock sized tires on it). But I was thinking about selling them because they're going to be heavier than the stock wheels and for me it's more about performance than looks.

So I was wondering about what I should put on the car. I don't know too much about wheels yet, but I'd like something as light or lighter than the stock 2002 Z06 wheels. I'd like to fit 305's or 315's on the back and either 265 or 275 on the front. I'd also still like to stagger the wheel heights (either 17/18 or 18/19) since I like the looks.

Anyone have suggestions on wheels or brands and what they weigh?

Thanks.

Give John at CCW a call - he might have something that is less weight than the stock wheels.

I'll trade you my stock polished aluminum thin spokes. They are very light weight in comparison to most aftermarket wheels.

18/19 is going to be heavier unless you're into some very expensive wheels.

LOL! Um... I'll have to say no to that. I know how much these wheels are worth and they're in great condition. (No curb rash or anything.) I'll take pics of my current wheels.

I do like factory Z06 wheels, actually. But they really don't fit the size tires I'd like. I'd want to fit 315 if possible on the back.

According to the Tire Rack the 10.5" factory Z06 wheel is fine for 315s.

I think about this too (not that my budget is up to replacing my wheels yet) but from what Ive read it seems you cant get wheels lighter than the magnesium wheels that were offered as an option.

I have seen pictures of them buffed out (for those that want wheels that look like chrome as opposed to painted) and they look great. I would imagine you would have to clear them to keep them from oxidizing.

But they are (relatively) cheap. You can find them for sale for less than half of what you would pay for light aftermarket wheels.

Well, I went out tonight to take some photos of the car... I'll post up the pics of my wheels on the car. They actually do look really good. I haven't really learned the car so much yet, so I have mostly just been peddling it. But when I monch on the gas, this thing feels great. I'm not really spinning much, but I have kicked out the back end of the car a few times.

I think the original factory tires are still on the car. I'll check when there's some light out.

The biggest tire I've seen on the stock Z06 wheel is a 305. I assume that 315 would be possible with a bigger sidewall. But that'd look pretty ridiculous and throw my speedo off.

No, the best solution is still aftermarket wheels.

How light is "super light"? And what tires are they fitting at that weight?

Here's some pics of the current wheels on my car: (Sorry, the car is pretty dirty)

One piece wheels are going to most likely be your lightest wheel. If you are wanting to have the lightest possible, stay with the with stock size. You can run a 315 on the rears (10.5 wide) with no problem, but again the wider the tire, the more weight. If you are building an all out race car, I can see saving a few pounds. If not, I wouldn't worry so much about weight.
