I've got a bottle of AA Low Gloss that I've had for quite a while, reserved just for the top of the dash. The TA I had suffered from the same problem.
Haven't looked in some time. The bottle I've got, I've had for awhile, but it's starting to get towards the bottom. I'm thinking seriously about 303. In addition to online, it seems that marine supply companies sell it too. Besides, if Ed (Patches) likes it, it must have something to it, since he's an engineer himself plus he takes exquisite care of his cars.
Those that don't use anything, or use just water, may be living on borrowed time. Depending on where you live and how the car is stored, etc, interior plastics will eventually dry out and/or shrink slightly. Brittleness can set in and the cracking begins. This is more true of daily drivers as well as people who live in the Southern areas that have higher levels of sun throughout the year, not to mention the very high interior temps.
After I have done the seats and such, I take the saturated sponge-applicator and go over the other parts like doors and dash pad. It keeps it looking new and has a low luster sheen. I've seen no reflections.
I found the same problem even in cloudy Ohio so I bought a dash pad from Mid America and just leave it on all the time as it also protects the dash as well.
the easiest solution. i keep one on my wife's hemi magnum all the time. you think the sun is bad in LA, try deep south florida (in the heart of the tropics, lol)

Oh yeah, I'll take sunny, dry and 75 degrees 310 days out of the year over hot and humid any day!
... and we have clean air, no polution, no state income tax nor is our state bankrupt.
Yeah, our ocean is cold and state is run by complete idiots. The air is actually very clean when you live at the beach here because the ocean breeze blows all the smog inland and when there are earthquakes the sand dampens the shaking

and your state is also sending idiots to the senate and house of representatives.
I like Aerospace 303. It leaves a low sheen.
It can be found locally - Try an RV / Trailer sales store. http://www.303products.com/
I've been using this for a couple of years now.
1Z einszett Cockpit Premium Interior Plastic Cleaner
It does not leave a sheen, or if it does, it is not noticeable to me. http://www.properautocare.com/eicopr.html
