I will be in the market for new tires shortly and was wondering being that l was going to stay with the orig run flat design should l just go with Goodyears or look elsewhere?
Also l noticed used tires for sale here with 6/32's left. What does this really mean? What did they start with?
And with normal driving how many miles should a person expect from a set of runflats (goodyear) within 5000 miles?
Go with non-runflats. You'll like the ride better. I recently bought the General UHP's. So far, a very nice tire and a great price. Contact Luke at Tirerack on this Forum.
Less than 20K on most sets of run flats. If you go with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZPs you should get around 45K.
I'm sure others will comment on how they feel about Michelin Pilot Sport AS ZP tires.
i'm at 24,000 on my OEM goodyear EMT's and i still have a bit to go before considering replacement. i agree on the tire rack contact. they have great customer service and prices. i am going with runflats once again when the time comes, but they will NOT be goodyear. i've been reading a lot and if EMT is the way you decide to go, firestone and michelin seem to be the best choices from what i have been able to figure out. that's just my opinion, however. there is no doubt non run flats will give you more preferable ride characteristics, but without a spare (and just coming off serious back surgery), i have no intention of trying to plug a non run flat with cars buzzing by at 80 mph, should the need arise, lol! BTW should you decide on michelin do not get their tires with an "AS" designation unless you feel you need it as that is an all season tire which may not be needed. it will definitely affect the ride a bit (and as others have reported) will affect negatively your fuel milage some.

Same here just put em last month can`t beat the price and very impresed with the ride quality.
The word is out (well, as far as Car & Driver mag is concerned)! They did a comprehensive low-cost tire test to see which ones are best at:
Autocross (dry) Kumho XS
Autocross (wet) Dunlop Star Spec
Braking (dry) BF Goodrich G-Force KDW (5th place overall)
Braking (wet) Hankook Ventus V12 EVO
Skidpad (dry) Kumho XS (3rd place overall)
Skidpad (wet) Hankook Ventus V12 EVO (2nd place overall)
Lowest sound level: Bridgestone Potenza RE760 (4th place overall)
Lightest tire: Yokohama S.Drive (6th place overall)
Best overall tire: Dunlop Star Spec
Biggest shocker of the test: Kumho wet performance: so bad it was described as "nothing short of diabolical....when they let go, there was a long, hairy slide before recovery, and the point at which they would give up is impossible to predict..."
Others: Falken Azenis RT-615 (7th place overall)
Nitto Invo (8th place overall)
Ling Ling L688 (9th and last place overall)
That being said, I must mention that the Goodyear GSD3s are probably near the top of any super high-performance tire list. I have tried some of the ultra-inexpensive tires on other cars and in many cases, you get what you pay for. However, if Dunlop eventually makes its Star Spec in C5 sizes, I'd be tempted to try them out. They actually beat the Michelin PS2s on dry surfaces.

For runflat tires, I would recommend the Firestone Firehawks - I had them on mine and was very pleased with their performance. Most tires come with either 9/32nds or 10/32nds of tread depth, and tires need to be replaced at or before they get down to 2/32nds of tread depth left.
Of course they are non-runflats....I suggest test driving a C5 with non-runflats if you know someone that has one. They absolutely change the way it handles... for the better.

I went with Firestone Wide Ovals in Z06 sizes along with new wheels to match.
Bottom line: much quieter, better grip (summer only) and a smoother ride. Also, you totally move away from the bump-steer when hitting a bump while turning.
I made my decision based on the reviews and test results provded by Tire Rack.
I just bought the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZPs. I was looking for a runflat tire that had a little longer lifespan. I think they are the only UHP runflat tire that has a treadwear rating of 500 and 45,000 mi. warranty.
