Hey dudes,
I have a pair of black door panels I want to unload. No material peeling or bubbling, just some small knicks. If interested, PM me and I will send you pics
Mine seem perfect but PLEASE SOMBODY TELL ME HOW TO PREVENT THIS..... I use VinylEx to condition it.
I use Aerospace 303 and use sun shades to keep sun out of the cockpit - I even put them up on the passenger side windows depending on time of day people at work think I am crazy
I think the vinyl covering must shrink.
I can push mine in and tell the adhesive is still sticky. It is just not strong enough to hold it stretched into place in the corners.
I guess the ultimate fix is to recover the panels with real leather like I saw a forum member do.
Whatever you all do, dont use super glue. Dont ask how I know. Definately needs to be something you can spread around.
What is the problem with super glue? I once used it to glue down the front of the dash pad on an old Lumina APV van. Nothing else worked. I have been wondering if it might be possible to inject super glue or super glue gel under the the separated skin using a hypodermic needle and syringe and then spreeding it out by gently massaging the separated skin back into place. Just a thought.

Thats what i did. Super glue wouldnt spread. Turned out looking worse.
Mine are shot in the arm rest and above. Does VE or DS make C5 panels? I've only seen C6.
Went to the local restoration shop today. This guy does RR, antiques, etc from all over the country, first class craftsman. $600 for both sides in leather, doubled stitched and he takes the panels off and reinstalls them. Not cheap but I know that the stick on arm rest fix for $150 won't work for me, I may just bite the bullet.
He will also do my center console, and, and.....it's just time and $$

What's the name of the shop. I may want to do the same thing. Let us know if you do it and how they turned out.
I have a problem with the whole leather thing. Don't they have to glue the leather down? If they glue it to the black stuff that is already coming up won't that just lead to the leather coming up?
FYI, the vinyl is stripped and the underlayment repaired if necessary. There will be crafted stitching where seperate panel are required because of the contours.
I've got one other shop in Sarasota I want to check with Monday.

That's not too bad, considering the time and craftsmanship put into doing that type of work. Not to mention that it's more expensive to replace the panels with OEM that'll eventually do the same thing.
That seems to be a pretty good price (depending on the exchange rate and the quality of the work).
Give us a heads up on how things turn out.
I am seriously thinking along these line as the ultimate solution as well. Of course there's also the "bling" factor too. I'm thinking all black with silver stitching to match the silver stitching on my seats and keeping my tutone VE (black/silver) door pulls and tutone VE armrest pads.
