Default Coolant Temperature question?

Question for everyone… I was driving my car today and for the first time ever I noticed that the Coolant temperature was between 189-205 on the digital gauge, and on the other temperature gauge it showed 200-220. I was drove maybe 15 miles and had only a very few red lights. What is your average coolant temperature? Also which gauge is the most accurate? I asked the Chevy dealer why the two do not match and they were unable to really provide me and answer. Thank you for your answers.

Normally, the temp should be around 190-195 while moving. If in stop and go traffic, it could reach 220-230. Much higher and the fans should kick on and lower the temp.

If you're worried about the temp getting too high, turn on your A/C and it will cool down your engine as it kicks on the fans. The other option is to program the computer to turn on the fans at lower temperatures.

Hi There:
I run 190 - 195 moving, temps in the mid 80,s not nearly as hot as Tampa. We only had 4 days of 90 degrees 2 in april, 1 in july, 1 in aug.
As the other poster said have your fans set to come on sooner.Have you checked your radiator for blockage or debris ?

I'm a little surprised that the OP is showing two different readings on the coolant temp. I thought there was only a single coolant temp sensor and yes, I know its critical to the PCM that its working correctly too.

Check your intake under the front end. The vette is a bottom breather and JAMBS crude up into the radiator. I had a very similar issue and once I cleaned out the radiator my temps dropped back to normal range 190 to 195.
