This topic is interesting. I wondered the same when I bought my vette. On the forum I haven't seen (until now) anyone get reemed for adding rims or brake cooling ducts. You need to take this into perspective...If you ask a Z06 owner if it is ok, OF COURSE they will say no...most spent 1000's over MSRP. They dont want you to look like them...they paid for that. If you wondering if people will look down on you I say generally No. Badging is a different story Z28 on a V6, Z06 on C5, ZR1 on C4 :nono: then your lieing. The fact is since the history of vettes people have added BBhoods, SS wheels, ZR1 wheels, updated c4 front ends...and there hasnt been much outlash...just stay away from the badge. For the Z06 owners who give you a hard time...dont listen, do it for yourself. I have T1 sway bars on my Vette but my car isnt a T1 race car. Should all the z06 guys punk me for not being a T1, probably not...it is functional just like wider Z06 wheels and brake cooling ducts. Anyone who is going to think twice about the classification of a machine then look down on me is a loser any how and needs something better to think about. Do what you want! :smash:
"If you ask a Z06 owner if it is ok, OF COURSE they will say no...most spent 1000's over MSRP."
Did anyone really spend thousands over MSRP???? I dont thinks so...I dont care what anyone does to their car, only if it comes time to sell it and they try to deceive you, thats a different story.
Well Im not sure about Hawaii or the midwest, but in California a Z06 cannot be had for under $4000 over MSRP. Sounds crazy huh? Crown Chevy in Dublin California sold a 2002 blue Z for 7,000 over msrp while I was sitting there getting an oil change. It is called supply and demand, I will spare you an economy lesson. A few Z06 owners I know go out of state (arizona, nevada) to buy Z's to save money. Please dont attack me like the rest of the people on this post. I know what Im talking about; I work for GM and am civil towards all sports care ethusiasts. I will probably stay out of the Z06 forum for a while, some of you guys are pissy...sound like a bunch of snobs...it is a machine not a Nobel prize. Peace out...be friends
You could take every ZO6 enhanced part and add it to your coupe, including the LS6 and the specific gears for the transmission. You would still be missing one thing, the "S" in the VIN. But you would have one fine running coupe, I think everybody here would agree to that point, just remember that your about 115 lbs heavier than the real Z.
vettepilot :seeya
Ummm okay. I am probably 115 pounds lighter than a lot of Z06 owners.
Ti exhaust, carbon fiber, racing seats...all these things to be a few pounds lighter. How about go on a diet or leave your wife at home...that will do the trick too
Just my opinion, but I wouldn't do it. Two years from now there will be something new. The Z06 won't be such a hot ride and you will have simply cut some holes in a perfectly good Corvette.
I remember when I put some of the new Ford Bullitt wheels on my '97 Cobra because I liked the looks. By some of the comments I received, you would have thought I did something sacrilegious!
I do mods (no matter where they come from) because I like it. And that is all that should matter. Look at Garceeya's car. Damn sharp looking and fast too. I could care less whether it is fake or not. As long as he likes it, that's all that counts. Same for all the other good-looking, fake or otherwise cars on here.
The damn word "Z06" is a factory option code. 99% of the population has never even heard of a Z06, let alone can recognize one. People know about an M5, Integra Type R, Camaro SS, or a Saleen Mustang. Some of us Corvette guys get caught in this little 30,000 person world and thinks that everyone else carries a picture of a Z06 in thier wallets. My point is that adding some air ducts or wheels is the least of these fraudulant crimes that car owners are acused of by you "Special Model *****." Quit acting like children and crying about something that doesnt matter, your just bursting someone elses bubble. If you spent 50,000 on your big Corvette toy, why listen to a bunch of wimpering old men on an internet forum...put pink strips down the middle with type R badges if you want. :smash:
I would agree in _almost_ every case. The example _I_ ran into was a guy with a plane jane, narrow body stock wheeled LT-1 with ZR-1 badging all over it (both bumpers, both sides of the roll-bar-hoop.)
That's just a guy beein a weenie.
It's one thing to badge a car to make folks think you paid another $4000 for an option...it's another to make 'em think you paid the ZR-1 tax. Heck _I_ toyed with buying the red valvecovers...it goes with the paint!
