I've put almost 17,000 on in 20 months I've owned it. Don't understand the garage Queen idea,,but don't knock it,,it's a free country and what ever makes you happy. For me I can't stay out of it for long. I bought it to drive and enjoy!! My shark has been sitting for a while,,it needs some work,,and I just haven't had the time to take care of her. She will get driven,,just not as much as the C5.
1,200 Miles on my car in the last 6 weeks. I can't stop driving her. She's getting me so much attention from the girls too. Crack isn't nearly as addicting as driving a Corvette.
Garage queens are great for the buyers out there, but not a very smart investment for most sellers. For the price difference you get when you finally sell them, you might as well drive them?
I met a guy the other day who bought a new C6 Z06 for sticker price at the dealer and he said he just bought it as an investment and has no intention of driving it. He really believes it will go UP in value!
what did you buy it for if not to drive it? it's never going to be a collector car.
I drive my car about 1,000 miles a year. I've never washed it or driven it in the rain. I purchased it nearly 10 years ago as a toy and that's what it is. It's funny how other people always tell me that I'm not enjoying my car. I hate to burst your bubble, but I enjoy just knowing it's in my garage and that I can drive it at my choosing. I'm not naive enough to think that it will one day be a collector car. If something happens to me, my son gets it. I've put way too much money into it to use it as a daily driver. As a side note, I've taken first place or best of show at every car show I've entered this summer, except for one.
Garage Queen....not mine, I didn't spend all this money to let it sit in the garage and loose valueWhile mine is not a DD, I drive it every chance I get. During the winter months, I wait til the roads are clear if salted then back in the saddle I go. Life is going by too damn fast IMP not to enjoy the things you have.
My black car has become a daily driver since I started my Corvette accessories business. But I bought a second C5 back in January - I drive it very occasionally....it's a '98 Pace Car with less than 20K. I think I've put about 1300 miles on it since the beginning of February.
Why does the idea that someone chooses to drive their car occasionally and not put a lot of miles on it offend some people so much?
I believe if you aren't hurting someone else - and you're not violating written law, then do whatever the Hell makes you happy. If buying a Corvette and then having it become garage art makes you happy - go for it. If racing it at HPDE's makes you happy, go for it.
If driving it hard and never washing it or waxing it makes you happy go for it. What does it matter to anyone else?
I couldn't have said it any better I put about 3000 miles on my C5 a year and maybe 200 miles on our 85 C4 a year. If that makes the wife and I happy, who cares and why?
Drive ours about 5k a year so far. Have had it for 2 years. Take it to town once a week and get the oil up to operating temp and then we take it on trips. It's seen rain, sleet, snow, and small hail. Bought it to enjoy, not look at in the garage. It's kinda dusty now but will probably look worse after the trip this weekend.

One of the cool things about a hobby is that everyone can find something different in it. I daily drive mine, and some folks never drive theirs...but we both love our 'Vettes!
It's the same in just about every hobby. I'm a pilot, and I like to fly low and fast, looking out the windows. I have a friend that only flies instruments, as high as he can go, and never looks outside. Two different ways to enjoy the same hobby.
I do have to say that sometimes I carpool 3-4 days a week and the 'Vette may sit in the garage. There is something special about Saturday morning coming around and sliding that car cover off...
I have added 62,000 miles in the last 2½ years on mine. I bought it cheap with 115k miles and I'm driving the crap out of it. Who cares how many miles it gets on it. I'll do whatever maintenance/repairs are necessary, and I'll enjoy every mile that I put on it. My '94 Silverado has 325k miles, and I plan to go way beyond that with my FRC.
It's very liberating to have a Corvette that I'm not afraid to drive, but I certianly respect the guys who have pristine cars and want to keep them that way.

Well said -- for you this is a great hobby . For me, I really dislike driving anything else other than my Vette so it is my DD and accumulates about 10X the annual mileage yours does. I do enjoy going to and even entering (since the entry fee always goes to a good charity) a couple shows per year. I have zero chance of winning anything but I keep the car nice enough that it is not an embarrassment. And I get a charge out of checking out cars like yours which will preserve the breed when cars like mine turn into parts cars.
I simply have other non-car hobbies that some folks must think are like pouring money down the drain! Screw 'em -- it's what I enjoy.

[Mine gets driven hard and often. I love to pull up to a traffic light with my 200 lb english mastiff hanging his head out the window. It is a car, meant to be driven and enjoyed. I bought it from an owner who was scared of water, pebbles, dirt, any passengers, and apparently anything above 4000 rpm. I can still see the look in his eyes on the day I bought the car. My dad dropped me off at his house, a light mist falling. The dog and I climbed in, strapped on the belts, and left his house pretty sideways for the next hundred yards or so. It almost killed him when I ran into him a few months later and he saw the rollcage!
