I was also in Carlisle this past weekend, my 1st trip to the extravaganza. I must say it was quite educational and entertaining. I really wasn't looking for anything in particular. but was thinking about an air intake system. I stopped to see the people who sell the green filters (I can't remember the brand name) and the lady behind the counter made it sound like if you just put one of their filters in that was 90% of the work. I presently have a K & N air filter in and I have no problem with it, but is that alone really helping to increase my hp? Also, ever since I've had this car I have a hard time keeping the airbox buckles down. If I get them both down all you have to do is tap the box and one or both will come unbuckled, I've taken the filter out and cleaned stuff up but I still can't get it to hold. Anyone else had this problem? That's sort of why I'd like to put a whole new intake on.
Call me a cheap a$$ all I bought at the show was 2 drying towels at the Meguiar booth after watching a detailing seminar. Got a lot of education though. WOW, what a show.
i went with a dual cone setup off ebay. $49.99 shipped and it works and looks great.....and yes i added a hood seal after these pics were taken to keep the water off the filters...
It's a combination of intake/header/exhaust that shows true gains, IMHO. Think in those terms.
Still an intake is better breathing. That will ekkk out some gains. Long tube headers really bring out the best. The non-Z06 exhaust is slightly restrictive. Just some random, generalised thoughts.
WKMCD, being a mere Junior member, i am torn between decking out my 99 Hardtop with the Z-51 suspension, or just buying a Z06 being the economy is putting some great deals out there. Under your hood looks beautiful. If you had the time, could you give us the run down on what you have going on there??? Would that Monster intake you have fit under a stock hood?? Cool caps on everthing, painted custom? Let us know.
To add another voice to the fray...
VaraRam.
It will cut your 1/4 times by 3/10th and add at least 3 mph to your trap speeds. No other brand can post the printouts.
The high flow filters help tip-in
A cold air intake like VaraRam aids roll-on
Have a airbridge that has been repainted from my original Halltech system but then added the Breathless Performance cold air ram system filter and box just recently. Since I show, it has really been dressed up. I did not see any HP gain but my Borla's sure growled more getting rid of the stock intake.

I wont go along with the racing stripe. But i will say the clear cover on the intake and the boss looking red intake pipe is something i wouldnt mind having!!! Nice rig!
Go with the Halltech Venom, very easy to install and remove. Excellent HP gains (dyno number on the site) with no permanent mods to the car (no cutting).

I have always liked this style of air intake. Did it require any cutting or excessive modding or was it simply plug and play?

When I saw your original post, I was wondering why the lower shrowd looked different than stock. I love the way you painted it MSG. I am considering having my paint guy paint mine as well when he does the other internal and external paint mods I have planned. Looks great!
Quick! I think I see a spot of dirt in that engine bay. Roll out the detail spray!!!
Where did you get this info? I gained 13 Rear Wheel Horsepower (about 15 crank horsepower) by installing an intake and a cat-back. The cat-back probably adds a couple of horsepower when the engine is basically stock (but with bolt-ons such as an intake), so the intake alone will get you 10+ RWHP. That's a great bang-for-the-buck investment.
Also, by providing the intake with cooler outside air, you pretty much eliminate the ECU's retardation of timing, which would cost you 10 horsepower when the air is being pulled in from the engine bay, only.
PS: As a general rule of thumb, stay away from cheap Ebay filters. Halltech, Callaway, Blackwing, and K&N all contain good filters, but I can't say the same for some of the stuff coming in from China.
I gained 14 hp also with a dual air intake and Borla exhaust at the rear ,I can tell the difference.

****i completely disagree with you!!! my dual cone filter from china breathes very clean. i did the grease test and it passed with flying colors****.....
No one has said anything about keeping the airbox buckles closed, has anyone had that problem?
Yes, I have the same problem. I even tried putting Velcro pads on the buckles, but they still come loose. I am changing my filter system very soon, and that is one of the reasons. I thought I was the only one!
