Trying to fix the sticking gas guage. The bottle says wait until gas tank is near empty before adding techron. I'm not 100% sure how much gas I really have left (could be 3/4..could be 3/4 empty) Does it really matter since it's going to mix when I fill up? I just don't want to cut it too close and be stranded the side of the road. On the same note, don't want to waste a bottle if it's not going to do anything..thanks in advance
I will pull up to the gas station, pour the techron aditive in the tank that I usually get from wallyworld, and I fill up after that. I do it wether it has 1/4 of a tank or if it's 3/4 full. You won't be wasting it, and it will clean up your O2 sensors also.
Techron did not help with my gas gauge problem even after 4 bottles in 6 months,I put in one bottle of Seafoam in a tank full and it started acting sort of normal another bottle in the next tank full and it was fixed and has been that way for 5 months now,Just had the same problem with my Diesel Dually and the Seafoam fixed that problem too.
You have to be sure that you use the Techron Plus. There are 2 versions of Techron. You need the more expensive one.
FWIW when I had the problem, I could reset the code in the DIC and my gas guage was miraculously fixed. (at least for the moment) But that would help you to know how much gas you had.
I also had the same experience that Techron didn't fix it, Seafoam did. Of course no more cheap gas for me either....
I used to add the bottle of Techron every couple tanks, still had issues. It is cheaper to just use Chevron gas. I have used nothing but Chevron for 3 years now and nver have had another problem with the guage.
And, during the winter months of non-operation I have poured in a bottle of Stabil. Doing this and using Chevron has fixed my gauge issue. I have no way of knowing for sure if it has been the Stabil or Chevron gas or some mixture of the two but I have never used the Techron additive...go figure!
Thanks for the fast responses..We don't have Chevron around here, so I've used V-Power exclusively since I got it. Kind of baffled why it happened. Guess I've give it go with techron once and switch to seafoam if this bottle doesn't work. thanks again

V Power has several times the amount of detergent required. You should have no problems using Shell and a can of Seafoam every once and a while.
The gauge issue is caused by sulfur build up on the sensor. The members that don't have any luck with Techron probably have a more serious build up of deposits.
Not sure of the chemical compositions of seafoam vs Techron but having seen videos of Seafoam in use it looks like Techron on steriods
If you catch it early Techron works. If not, Seafoam is worth a try. Eventually you'll need a sensor change if the build up is too heavy.
I think the sea foam I grabbed was like $10 and the techron was a little more (niether is expensive).
Im also out of Chevron range so I also use Shell V power and although my gas guage works fine I have thrown a couple of bottles of Techron in over the years (havent used the sea foam yet).
Point of the story : went to have my car street tuned today and apparently I have a significant carbon build up in the top of the engine. So Im going to use the sea foam (as a top cleaner) tomorrow and I will be adding it to the tank for a while just to clean things out.

Tech seminar at the Carlisle show stated if you use the product use the "Plus" version and use the 20oz bottle. If it does not work then your repair expenses are about to increase.
do you think a vetter with 135k on the clock is a good time to seafoam? sorry to thread jack but just wondering
I have read conflicting arguments about this. Some say that after 135k, you don't want the kind of gunk sea foam is going to clear out of your engine to all be released at once. Some people have had issues with fouling spark plugs and 02 sensors, a select few have hydrolocked their motors, and very rarely someone will report that the car runs worse after correct application.
On the other hand many people have had great success with it. I have only done it once on an old LT1 with 125k and it didn't have any noticeable effects. People say it works great 500 miles or so before an oil change (putting it in the oil). Also it always works good putting it through the fuel.
If you decide to do it through the motor, make a vid, it's always cool to see how much smoke a car produces from it
haha. hmm i want to do it but dont want to hydrolock the motor. is there any way i can only put say half in. do the other half later? and i can just put it in my fuel tank? empty tank or full

Put it in quarter tank or half and fill up at the same time....bring a funnel lol. Actually I think the recommended amount is half in the engine half in the oil and a whole can in the fuel, but I could be wrong. If you read up how to do it correctly you shouldn't have any issue with hydrolocking, but if you're unsure of ANYTHING, don't do it until you've figured it out. Make sure you don't put any in the oil until your oil change is due soon.
