If you are removing the stock exhaust the part that goes over the axles is very long and curved, as I'm sure you probably know and it's all one piece with the muffler and tailpipes. I've done this once myself and to remove the exhaust without cutting it you need to get the rear of the car up about close to three feet. You need alot of height to swing the assembly around to get it out. It gets a little scary doing this on jackstands with the front on the ground. First I got everything undone and ready to come out. Then I jacked up the car and worked real fast maneuvering the exhaust to get it out before anything bad happened. I did it successfully but I was a little nervous. It's so much easier if you can get your car on a lift. Or you can cut the pipes right behind the axles if you're going to junk the stock exhaust. I didn't because the Z06 exhaust does have some monetary value. The regular exhaust is worthless, I'd cut it if that's what you have. If you cut it you would only have to go up about half the height.
I did it once on jackstands and would never do it again. The next time I swapped the catback out I took it to a muffler shop, cost was $60.00 and well worth it!!!
I have watched the pros do this many times in Carlisle. They raise the car up about 8 feet or so. I think it is worth it to let a pro do this unless you have a lift.
tried to remove mine from while on jack stands and I just couldn't get it high enough. Ended up waiting till I could get it on a lift at my buddy's house.
I made turn downs and ran the car with LT's x pipe and turn down until I could get the Ti welded up. It was too loud that is for sure.
jack it up until your butt starts to pucker! then go higher and you should be good! lol seriously though if you can get acess to a lift it is well worth it and sooooo much faster.
I did mine on the ground and it wasn't so bad. So long as the car is properly supported, no worries. If you take the rear sway bar loose from the mounts, it's much easier.
That's the thing. How can it be properly supported at over 3ft height? They don't make jackstands that high and even if they did i still wouldn't trust it that much. Unless your talking about throwing some cinderblocks under the car and working with the jack holding the rear cradle...i wouldn't call that "proper" though.
I picked up a set of Ti that i want to get modded then install this winter(car has borla now). I don't trust shops, one guy i know who does some work for me has a lift but it would be really hard to get it on his lift because its old and does not have clearance for lowered cars.
