Autoweek reported 131 '84 to '95 vettes turned in for cash for clunkers. I wouldn't mind paying $4500 for a nice LT1 6speed. I wonder if any CF member turned one in.
"All I gotta do is find one person that'll pay that $1m". <--- the overpriced Vette seller's credo.
After you've "ttt"d your for sale thread for over a year, I think there is a bit of a disconnect between your asking price and the perceived value of the car.

i just looked in the c4 FS section. after not looking at corvette sales until recently i was shocked at some of the prices. 40k mile lt1 cars with ask prices of 8500. a 50k mile 89 selling for 5k. i almost feel bad getting 12.5k out of my c4 last year, it even had 140k on the body
I think alot of corvette owners have a chip on their shoulders and think their cars are priceless, asking crazy prices, when there is sooo much demand out there.. As some have said, there's C4's in the for sale section for monthssssssss... I just started tracking some C4's on E.bay and autotrader to see how long they take to sell or if they sell and how much. I am entertaining buying a C4 myself next year, so it's great to see them dip...
C4's are american cars and they've always lost value... but I've noticed other american muscle cars in the same boat. Look at 03-04 Ford Cobras, 04+ Ram SRT10..... either one you can pick up for low to mid $20K's....
I do see some C4's asking $14K+, yet I see C5"s for $15K+ , lol... I don't know how a C4 seller asking $14K would feel if I come in offering the market price of $10K.....heck some 92-96 C4's are going for $7K+ in decent condition... not ragged out pos's...
When the C5 was introduced it instantly dated the C4 to being way obsolete. The C6 did not do this to the C5,it is more of an evolution.
this is true. the c4 also has a platform problem. the line of sight is lacking and so is the suspension design. it's a much more nervous car than the c5.
i have a perfect example of the c4 prices... this 1984 4+3 vette has 46k on the clock, you do the yearly mileage math... i purchased it in 1995 and it had 43k on the clock. it is a strong 9 on a scale of 1-10. i have not tagged it sense 2004. and i would be lucky to get $5k for it...i will just hold on to it. she is a blast to drive, even if it hasn't been driven for almost 5 years.....
if i was to part it out, there is about $12k in parts .....
As I mentioned b4, I've been following Vette prices as I am going to hopefully be in the market in the coming months... On ebay a 99 with 91K miles, hud, blk/blk, 6 spd, paint , interior and engine look good.. sold for $12.3K.... some guys with C4's are asking more than that for their cars, lol... that $12.3K is what about a $25K+ price drop since new?

most agree which is the theme of this thread. check our own c4 section and you will find very nice, clean, low mile {like 50k} LT1 cars going for 7000-8000. after spending a lot of time with c4's myself in the early 2000s i highly suggest a 92+ since all c4s are cheap now it shouldn't be too hard to come by. a local car i was watching was a 74k LT4 car with an ask of 8900, as of last week it was still forsale. the deals are out there

I sold my C4 for $16.5k in 2004 and Bluebook was around $11k I think. My car was in top notch shape with 45,000 miles on the clock. It took about a month to sell it. All it takes is one person
I don't think its unreasonable to ask more money than what KBB suggests. I don't think we have to give our cars away to accomodate what Kelly BB says either. I work hard for what I get, I don't feel guilty one bit trying to recoup a little.
At the same time you are smart for shopping around. There are tons of deals out there. Good luck with your hunt

good point; well put.
The C4 was being designed back in 1981'ish. It wasn't intended to run-on for 13 years. The mid-life changes helped; but the basic shape, frame, suspension remained the same throughout.
It was a hot car in it's day; I purchased a brand new 1985 and kept it for 6 years.
I just bought my '99 about 4 months ago and was in the market for a c5/6spd w/under 70k on it. Pretty difficult search entailed as i was looking under $17,500. Finally found 1 w/69k miles on it and neg. it down to $15,400. At the time, i was seeing a lot of c4's, very low mileage 20-30k in the 1991-1996 range for about $16000. I was thinking about going this route but, as others noted, the c5 was so much of a better bang of the buck over its predessor. I am happy w/my choice.
