Asking price and selling price are two very different things.
The market for an $15k C4 is basically nonexistent. The market for a $15k C5 is quite good. There are some C4s in the for sale section at $20k+ that have been in there for over two years.
The same trend is exists between C5s and C6s too. You can get into an '05 for low-mid $20s now, or an '06 C6Z for $40k. So the market for these immaculate '03 AEs and other "premium" C5s for $30k+ is also very poor.
I have not seen any C6s for less than 27k in my area. Do you have a link? -Thanks
I sold my C4 for $16.5k in 2004 and Bluebook was around $11k I think. My car was in top notch shape with 45,000 miles on the clock. It took about a month to sell it. All it takes is one person
I don't think its unreasonable to ask more money than what KBB suggests. I don't think we have to give our cars away to accomodate what Kelly BB says either. I work hard for what I get, I don't feel guilty one bit trying to recoup a little.
At the same time you are smart for shopping around. There are tons of deals out there. Good luck with your hunt
..I wont sell my stuff for a dime less than what I think it's worth...and I put a lot of thought into it...I had my pristine 99 coupe with 40K miles sold for $28K last Februay..the buyer (or shall I say his wife) insisted on my 02 Convertible with 60K miles instead...My price??..$32K...It was a one owner car and was pefect...They had been looking for almost a year and hadnt found anything as nice as my cars for the price...I also took their Ford Explorer in trade, allowing them $7K for it, when dealerships were only offering them $4K tops...I sold the Explorer a week later for $7500 after putting brakes on it and tuning it up...
My 99 Coupe...(I still have it)
The 02 Vert I sold instead...

Exactly. I surf craigslist all the time for a C4 or C3 (I want another daily driver) and I LMAO every time I see someone asking over 10K for a C4. I always think "DAMN you're crazy. Good luck with that..."
Some people ask some stupid prices for their cars.

I disagree. If I'm selling my car I'll ask for what I think it's worth not what KBB or you think it's worth . If you're a potential buyer and you don't like the price, you don't have to buy it . Sombody else will. I never use KBB as a baseline price for any of my cars and I always sell my cars for the price I'm asking, I guess I must have good luck.....
But I do go by what the market is like. Some people ask for 6K for the same car as the person selling it for 10K... That's just silly to me.
But is it really the "same car"??...It may be the "same year", but that's where the similarity stops...We both know people take care of their cars differently..

My point is that if I have a perfect car on the scale from 1 to 10 mine is an 11. I think I can command 10k for it when the average is going for 6k. Someone will recognize this and if they want it they will get it. It's smaller version of Barret Jackson
I think some of you are missing the point. The topic is about C4s supposedly being barely cheaper than C5s.
I contend that this is not the case. You can certainly find a regular C4 priced at the level of a regular C5, but the C4 will be way higher up the bell curve than the C5, and will therefore take longer to sell. Or it will be some specialty car like a CE or a GS. Your run of the mill LT1 C4 will sell at a heavy discount to a run of the mill C5, just as one would expect.
All this talk about "I'm gonna sell MY car at MY price" is irrelevant. My C5 is also worth more to me than what the market will bear. That is why it is in my garage, and also why I don't bother to put it up for sale at some WTF price. It is a waste of time for all involved.
PS: If your car took a month to sell, that is not indicitive of a WTF price. If your car has been for sale for a year, then you are clearly either not letting anyone know it's for sale, or pricing it on the WTF end of the bell curve.
LOL that 99 vette is 10 years old!How many 10 year old cars are still worth 12.3 k?
integra type r, these silly little cars are crazy. retail was around $25k in 97-01 and a clean stock one with maybe 50-60k miles will still fetch 13-15k
i can't really think of many others unless they started much higher
