I recently bought my wife a '99 Convertible. It is equipped with the (6-spkr?) Bose system and the 12 disc changer in the rear. The in-dash unit has the CD player (vs. casette) as well. She is happy with the sound system. We rarely go anywhere that would require Nav, and have Magellan for those occasions. But, she would like to have a bluetooth installation for her cell phone. We don't need bluetooth sound, but a handsfree phone is the goal. The thing is, she'd like it to be integrated into the sound system. You know, shut down the stereo when the phone rings . . . Well, I've searched around here, and looked at other sites (trying to find Parrot cables) and had no luck. It seems without the Bose system (which I think includes its own amp) cables are available, but not with the Bose system. Maybe I'm misreading, so I thought I'd ask. Has anyone successfully integrated a Handsfree system into the Bose premium system? If so, what'd you use, and how did you position (hide) the add-in hardware? Thanks for any feedback.
Hello, yes i have a parrot ck300 in my 2002 coupe (w/bose). im actually taking it out soon as i bought a nav unit which includes bluetooth. anyway, the unit i have does everything you mentioned, mutes the bose system with factory head unit when a call is incoming, then plays it through the factory speakers. i got my harness and parrot from crutch field. just enter the year vette and it should come up on their website. i would sell you my barely used kit for less with the harness if you want. its not hard to install either, the hardest part is routing the 12v ignition lead from the passenger footwell...
Thanks for the reply. Does this Parrot unit have a remote Mic? remote mic capability? Also, I thought the Bose systems were amplified. Could be wrong about that though. Amplified systems (I think) don'[t work with the cables I've been able to find. Thanks very much for the input. How long do you think you're gonna wanna hold on to your setup? Price?
Lastly -- What is the software version on your CK-300? Is is updateable?
no problem man, the bose speakers are amplified (amps located at the speakers in the doors) however the harness i have simply receives the cables (from the dash) that plug into the factory head unit and then the harness itself plugs directly into the factory head unit. so in other words, the unit just "splices" into the factory harness. this eliminates having to deal with the amplified system because it is wired in "before" the speakers which are not affected. i wish i had my car back from the shop (should be tomorrow or Thursday) so i could take it out and provide you with some pictures of it both in and out of the car. the mic is wired (with a 12-16ft cord) which i ran up the passenger a-pillar to just above the rear view mirror. however with a convertible there might be a better place due to the wind noise. Like i said installation is easy. the only real ordeal is wiring the switched 12v from the ignition and stuffing the parrot box/harness under the climate control in the center console without pinching wires.
btw, to answer your question, the software on mine is v5.11C and im honestly not sure if it's updatable (might be worth a google search). id have it out by this weekend and would look for i dunno $75 shipped? cost me $140 w/the harness 2 months ago.
parrot will work, only think amplified in c5 is the factory door subs which arent really used in BT audio. You can use the standard gm harness t harness with minimal modifications if you dont wanna buy the vette specific one
