This guy is RUDE over the phone, too. He sounds like a very shrewd dude. We won't be hearing from this guy ever again on this forum (at least, not under the name NIKDSC5.)

Sad to say there is always going to be some guy that is going to be a scammer!! Just to lazy and shifty to make honest money!! Wouldn't be too bad if he was straight up about condition and priced it accordingly!!You don't mind taking a shot on a "project grade" system if it's priced right. No excuse for that half azzed packaging other than being cheap and lazy!! It wouldn't have taken much more effort to do it right. Just can't understand doing business like that,,but of course I VALUE my reputation!!!

That's some F'd up Sh*t right there. I've had several good transactions on this forum, and have always felt safer making deals here than on ebay...but this type of stuff makes me really upset.

The OP should get a full refund if he paid by CC, and he should also be allowed to keep Nick's beat up STS system to teach that A-hole a lesson.

This whole thread bothers the hell out of me! I've lurked on this forum for the past several months before becoming a member. I'm no stranger to fast vehichles, but I'm new to vette's. I bought my vette last year and everytime I did research on google, the majority of the time this forum came up. I thought becoming a member I can get help and tips if needed, and so far I have! Already got info from several vendors and CF members alike. I thought if anything, this place could also be used as an online swap meet, or an alternative to ebay for parts and such. But lately I've noticed that this place isn't as smooth as I thought. So far I've seen several threads of dead beat vendors and members...my question is this...

Why can't something more be done about this from the forum owner/moderator'? Granted it's great the forum gets sponsorship and such but if someone is a deadbeat warning system and write up should be given. As those of you who use ebay know the seller has a rep meter, so why can't the same thing be done here? Also, I'm sure there are technical guru's in here, that if a guy like Nick ****** another member a mod or whom ever performs a IP trace and bands the IP making it MUCH harder for that same jackazz to create a new account under another name. This will also help curb someone from pulling what Nick did again.

I'm currently in the process of purchasing something off this board from a another member who is fairly new and when I see something like this it bothers the heck out of me. I would hate to get screwed, as I'm not the forgiving type, and this sort of thing is a waste of people's time and money. So, in closing, why can't something more be done about this???

Not all transactions go south as this one did. A few years back I parted out my complete, and I mean everything down to the nuts and bolts 2001 Z06 here on the forum. I worked extremely hard dismantling the car, carefully boxing up the items people paid me for and getting them shipped in a timely fashion.

I too had an STS Turbo kit which I sold off of my own personal vehicle. I used about 6' of bubble wrap on each turbo then boxed them individually. To this day the turbo kit is still going strong and getting the guy tickets in his neighborhood.

The mods can only do so much as they get constantly bombarded with negative comments, inappropriate posts, member fights you name it. They simply cannot regulate everything that takes place on the forum. I guarantee you if they did you would not like it either. It would hinder the open feeling of the site and become more like an eBay which we do not want.

I know you say your new here but there is so much more to the site then bad transctions. I personally have learned a great deal just by lurking posts, saving links and also met alot of great people. Think of it this way:

Have you ever been upset at a local Home Depot or Lowes about a return?

Ever purchase a vehicle you ended up hating and the dealership did nothing to rectify the situation?

A bad deal can happen anywhere not just on this forum, just ask anyone who has been wronged on eBay. Its a complete nightmare to deal with them or Paypal, I know this first hand.

Look at all of the posts in this thread, you can see we stick together on this forum like no other. We have people from all walks of life offering there assistance in working this out. You will not find that on eBay nor will you find that in a retail store. The forum gives even the little guys a voice that can be heard, He titled the post simply: "Be Careful" and after I posted the pics look at the page view count.

Doug is not big into the politics on here and is relatively new on the forum as well. I took the pics of the items and posted them up for him with the details of the story, have yet to meet him in person but he has a new friendss here on the board that will back him up.

That would be nice on here.

Joe, I understand what your saying and getting at, but as indicated above some solutions can be simple, or maybe not call it a solution but an added layer of protection for future sellers and buyers. I don't think this place will ever become like ebay because it's not designed that way, and I completely understand that the mods may have their hands full, I just wanted to voice my opinion. For the most part, I'm sure if there were stats it would show that most people are on the up and up like yourself!

Also talking to a couple technical guru's I work with, banning an IP address is as easy as making apple pie!

Anyways, hope it all works out for the OP

From the linked thread "See I went to the sand box (iraq) for a year". Find out what part of the military he is in or if he still is and go from there. I know they will not like to hear about this. Also if I'm not mistaken if this does go to court there is something about not being able to serve with an open court case?

Anyway just some food for thought.

I'm sorry, but that's just plain, outright wrong. You gotta have some pretty big ***** to pull something like that.

It truely is sad that people do things like this. A person like this deserves no other than a personel visit. My dad was a great guy. He always said a person is only as good as his word. To me this was exactly correct and thats the only way to operate. Hopefully this all works out for you.

I have been here a long time and never had a bad deal, knock on wood.

If I buy from a old member I do not worry. If it is a new member/seller, I look at all their posts, and ask for a link to their other sells. If they can not give me any, I walk away.

IP bans are easy to do only problem most people do not have a static IP address. With a user not having a static address you will end up banning other users.

I have sent him an email asking him to address this thread.

I appreciate your support and have put a plan in place. Lets remember that this type of thing doesn't happen very often and I feel this forums strengths far out way a mishap here and there. I have bought and saved money buying here and will continue to do so in the future. Not only has the forum provided important information on working on my car it also allows us to meet and make friends with fellow vette owners. Am looking forward to attending one of the big get togethers next year as wel as meeting some of the characters from the forum.

You have provided me the motivation to correct this and I will update you when it is finished. I am going to take the high road and believe me even if it cost more than I paid for the STS Nik will not be as likely to try this with someone else.

At this point I have notified my credit card company and PayPal and they have logged the dispute as well as notifing Nik. As you can also see by reading all the quotes, forum has also contacted him.

On Tuesday I am meeting with my attorney and will put together whatever legal action(s) he recommends.

Hopefully, the end result will be a path to follow for anyone else who finds that they are in a similar position.

As far as ZOJoe goes, I chose to have him do the work because of the time, patience, excitment and apparant knowledge he displayed when conversing with me. He has also provided common sense recommendations that have been a great help. THANKS JOE!! And Thanks to each of you for your support.
