I have a 02 Z06 and want to add a flash to pass feature. I know the stock C5 with fog lights has it if you have the fog lights on but what about adding it so the flash comes on even if the fog lights are off?
On a Z06 you have no way to flash your lights unless you have your headlights on and flash your high beams. The factory fog lights are better than no flash to pass lights. Do you have a better idea?
Momentarily pull the turn signal lever toward you.
The high-beam indicator will flash to indicate to the other driver that you intend to pass.
The fog lamps will flash
If the low-beam headlamps are off and
You have the optional fog lamps on,
Are you supposed to flash someone when passing them? I've been out of driving school for a while but I don't remember this one... I just put on my turn signal and pass when its safe to do so.

More of a safety thing, It lets the driver in front of you know you are passing, The flashing gets his attention.

Truckers will flash their lights when another truck wants to merge in front of them. In FL with dark tint it's hard to see a hand or arm gesture from inside the other car. I will also use the flash to pass to let another car know it's OK to merge.
Fixed headlight cars will flash the low beams during the day with Flash To Pass. Our C5 popup headlights don't pop up then shut when we want flash to pass.

I don't think he's talking about flashing left-lane-hogs that refuse to move over. He's talking about flashing his lights to let someone know he's about to pass or overtake them. It's not rude at all.
My guess is that you could add it. Fog lights would have to be wired through the BCM, just like stock ones. Plus you would probably need a TECH 2 to turn on this feature.
I'm betting the BCM is the same. You can put TPMSs on a ZO6, but have to use a TECH 2 to turn them on (activate this feature).

How do you figure it is rude?
I like it when someone behind me flashes to get my attenion to let me know he is going for it.
You are the first person in my 40 years of driving that said it is rude to flash to pass.
Wow, you should go to some other countries other than N/A. Most people here drive around with their head up their *** hogging lanes and cutting people off and not signaling. In some other parts of the world they will flash-to-pass as a warning and it's as much a defensive driving issue as anything else.
Think about driving the Autobauhn and coming up on a car going say 50-75mph faster than they are. Wouldn't you feel safer knowing you're warning them and that they're watching for the lights flashing to know you're coming fast.
I was in Africa last year and our driver was flashing A LOT, even in the city traffic. The horn got used too as a warning. It was just part of the driver being defensive. The streets were packed with mopeds and other small vehicles and we were driving in a Land Cruiser.
I'll sometimes flash if I'm passing a group of cars on a 2-lane highway. I've also used it before on divided highways when it looked like a slow car might come over as I'm ready to over take.
Left lane hogs get the flash from me too - it's more rude to hog the passing lane holding up other traffic than it is to flash the lane hog asking them to move over.
