After seeing the results of the paint thread earlier, i'm really curious to see how many C5 owners still have completely factory paint and how many have had to have something repainted. By repainting, I mean sanding down, priming, painting, clearcoating, etc (doesn't include touch-up painting)
If you have, what have you repainted? Did you replace the panel or just have it repainted? How big was the damage area that called for work to be done?
I'm pretty OCD about my paint being factory, but i've got a few marks in the rear bumper (a 1" deep scratch and the worse being a dent found here and here) that are in the paint, so i'm starting to wonder if it's worth repainting or not. Sadly, the dent was self inflicted when moving jetskis around
I chose "spot re-painting" because our DBGM 2000 is in the shop now to have the hood, headlights and rear hatch spot painted. We got a lot of stone chips this year and it just reached the point I couldn't touch-up and make it look good anymore. Should have the car back this week and have my fingers crossed for an invisible repair (I have the utmost confidence in this shop - they are the only one I trust).
Mine would be original, but 3 days after I bought it in 2007 it was backed into while parked. Rear bumper had to be replaced.
I think it depends on the painter. Mine was done at a Corvette shop (Corvettes of Auburn) that does everything from restorations to license plate covers-no issues with mine at all.
I had my 99 mag red coupe completely repainted 2 months ago after it was machine gunned by a rock hauler at 70mph.There wasn't a panel on the car that didn't sustain damage including the glass. The car was disassembled repaired painted and put back to pristine condition.
If a good shop handles the work it will look better than any GM robot can do.Good luck it is Sunday the sun is out and I am going for a ride along the beach.
I actually chose my '99 vert with original paint over an exact car with a repaint. The color is Mag Red, one of the more difficult colors to repaint and/or touchup. Even though the paint had a few small rock chips on the nose, I prefered the original factory finish. I don't regret the choice.
Mines a very high quality(IMO) complete repaint, done shortly before I bought it.
There's 1 small rock chip on the front end,and a small scratch in the drivers door, which I put there myself(had my keys in my back pocket and bumped the door shut with my butt)

Had all original paint until I drove to Bowling Green for the 15th Anny in Sept. North of Nashville got hit by a road gator thrown by another Vette. Had to have the front bumper cover repainted. Other than that all original.
