Default Shedding Some Weight

Hey, I am in the process of Shedding some weight on the Z06 and I'm looking for "suggestions" OR Ideas, as far as getting rid of the coolant overFlow Tank and still being able to keep the stock radiator,
for the time being, Down the road I'll buy a Ron Davis etc:

Any Links Photos Etc: That would like to Post would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks Fellas, Bon

Greetings

Here is a whole thread on weight reduction ideas and other measurments

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ngths-etc.html

Good Luck

Tires, and wheels are the best place to start.

Minor places:

- the windshield washer tank and fluid.
- Stereo speakers are heavy

You will need that coolant overflow tank if you do any kind of HP additions or any performance driving. That coolant temp heats up very quickly under hard use / racing.

A street Z is preety light already, removing a LOT of weight is not going to easy...or cheap! If you're make a track only car fine rip it up, but gutting a street car is not my idea of fun, (or good for resale value) I want may A/C, stereo etc., not look, or sound like it came from the Repodepo! 100lbs is worth about 1/10 sec., stick a blower on it , and call it a day.

When I changed my seats to Corbeau racing buckets, I saved 40 pounds...those stock seats are heavy! Fixed head lights would be another 40 pounds. Those two things alone make a huge difference! Indy

The problem with replacing the stock headlights is I hav'nt found a better looking replacement yet

My interior will remain stock looking but I'm shedding the air bags and stocker Cadillac like steering wheel and replacing it with a MOMO wheel or-NRG

I've already lost the airconditioning and and condenser windshield wiper wash and pump ,Since I lost the condenser now the radiator gets a straight on blast of air without the condenser in the way

I also lost the very Fatt A/C delco Battery approx 35lbs ! and in it's place I add a Deka battery 20lbs to which I added a mini solar charger that links up via the cigerette lighter and keeps the Battery around 12.8 volts, soon I'll be pulling the airpump and associated plumbing,
In about 3 weeks I will be adding a header system that will futher lighten the car 20lbs via loss of the cast iron manifolds
Next I want to loose the coolant overflow tank , add coilovers and Baer Eradi-speed 2 piece rotors, I fabricate for a living in Hollywood and I am planning on fabricating a Carbon Fiber front end for this car but that will be after I finish the motor work etc:
Why all this weight loss some ask ?
For me it's called Horsepower to weight ratio,
Personally I like light fast on the pipe type vehicles with super trick hardware (Ti, & Aluminum)as well as other cutting edge materials and one off fabrication.

That's the beauty of carcraft or Car Art each person can custom tailor their own car to suit their own taste or style
and the possibility's are endless
So if anybody has any Links, Ideas or knows alot about corvette cooling systems Post away !

I'll say it again, if your building a track car fine, removing heavy stuff (seats) etc. with lighter parts will not be cheap, that's my point.
But removing the air bags...your insurance would have a field day with you!
Modding is one thing, but when the end result looks like a 'rat rod', leaves me out in the cold.

...but it's YOUR car!

Remove the whole a/c system. You will also get much better airflow to your radiator. With full aftermarket exhaust,no a/c,no w/w system,no trunk cd player, stock manual seats, and Breathless headlights,my car shed 200 pounds on a certified scale. `

Removing the airbags and AC for a combined 60lbs or so, nah not me but like Jetz said, its your car. I'd diet and add power myself. I'd like to meet up with one of these lightened cars at the track and see just how much of a difference it really makes.

So where is this coolant overflow going to go ? Possibly in front of which wheel ? Guess you could hose it out to some exterior spot...After each time you drive you will have to "burp" the system after topping off as these LS motors don't like air in the system. Add one HP and save the overflow ! No track will let you pass tech without one..

Don't forget the bose speakers. Those front speakers with integrated amp are a little heavy.

You should be able to run a coolant tank that is about half the size since it seems to be an issue with you...

You might look at replacing the rear rotors with a front rotor. I haven't done it yet myself but I have seen a couple posts of guys who got rid of the heavy rear rotors (with integrated parking brake drum) and used a front rotor with a "puck size" caliper for the parking brake. The guys I saw used a C6 front rotor but a C5 front rotor should work fine.
