Default Brake Question

Just curious, how many of you doing HPDE's or TT are using stainless steel braided brake lines? If so, does it really make a positive difference?

I am getting ready to start maintaining two sets of brakes, meaning disc and pads for track days and the OEM set for the street. I was wondering if changing the hoses was also beneficial.

Yes - the SS lines do make the peddle firmer.

Earl's or Goodrich with banjo fittings

Dont for get the brake ducts for cooling to the rotors

I agree. I use the Stoptech kit. They have the banjo style. No kinking in the lines or connections. Teflon outer coating to protect the lines and a nice hard shell fitting at the connector end. Watch out of cheap one that do not have this. It is not worth saving $20 or so on cheaper stuff.

When you do your drill in swapping pads/rotors for track. Just check them over each time. Make it part of the ritual. Just to be safe.

I'm using them. You probably won't notice any difference in pedal feel during street driving, and as for track driving, you'll notice a bit of difference once your brakes are very hot. And as was already stated by others, don't go cheap on brake lines. Teflon coating and banjo fittings are a must imo.

Yes, Yes, and YES!

There are many reasons for doing a stainless line.
  • Resistance to heat, the rubber does not melt away from the fittings
  • Smaller internal diameter increases line pressure so the brake reacts quicker
  • Less expansion of material, hose diameter is more consistent as well as pedal feel.

That along with fluid and pads should be the first thing done before doing a track outing.
