About how much should a good paint man charge to paint the front bumper, headlights and front part of the hood?

A good paint shop should charge around 2k for that work and noone should ever just paint the front of the hood. The whole hood should be shot. Shoot me a pm with any questions you may have

That's a bit more than I was expecting.

I've had work done on other vehicles with more area to be painted for quite a bit less, and they did a great job.

Is there more to it on a vette? Being fiberglass and all.

Wouldn't the paint have to be blended in on the fenders?

Why could it not be blended on the hood?

You'll find that it chips worse after painting.

I know from recent experience that a gallon of clear coat costs about $600 for our cars (and that's just the clear!). With Painting a car...much like anything worth doing....you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR...the labor for removing the panels and preping them, shooting them and then clearing, wetsanding, re-clearing and then re-assembly at approx. $70 per hour labor/materials should get you close to $2k with that work. If it's much less than that then they are cutting corners imho.

What's the difference in clear coat for a Vette and other cars? A whole galleon for that small area seems excessive.

Glad our local rate is about $45. Getting a few estimates from the shops is the best way to find the local cost.

Vett's are not fiberglass any longer.

You never want to paint just part of a panel.

Why blend the hood when you can paint the whole thing in less time and better results?

True, BUT your previous statement is WRONG. Blending is partial color painting and clearing of the entire panel typically. What the OP wants to do is silly. Paint the Front fascia, headlight doors and hood completely. Material (1 qt. of color, 1 Qt of clear, primer, hardeners, reducer,... should be about $4-500 depending on color. If they just scuff and shoot, maybe 8hrs of labor. He could remove the parts and take them in to save a little.

Ok, skip the hood, there's just a couple of small chips in it, just the front fascia and HL doors.

The front/rear fascia and front fenders are urethane, the hood, doors, roof, rocker panel, and rear hatch are made of fiberglass.

Will they mask it or will they take it off (the front fascia)?

I noticed that your car is Carmine RED. red paints are usually a little more costly.

guess it's who you know. My brother-in-law's friend owns a shop and charged me $350 to do the bumper over. The clear coat was going to sh*t peeling all over the place. He repinted entire bumper and clearcoated it for me. It looks awesome!

Neighbor dropped his Harley on my car, right through the headlight cover and scratched the hood too.
