Oh so glad you are OK and you did NOT get a DUI. Just remember the price paid for all that advice. Your choice as to what sticks.

Anyway, about 2 months ago I finished spending about 2 1/2 months of, every waking moment that I was not working, researching the internet for a C5.

I used the list religiously and it paid off. I won't hijack this thread and beat my chest about the C5 I found.

Anyway, here is the list. Feel free to do with it what you want. The list, like all the advice, is free.

Good Luck!!!

Also, keep in mind that now that I have acquired the Vette, I have learned a ton of things that made the list close but no cigar on several options. But it got the job done.

Corvette Requirements: 10Sept2009

Definite Requirements:
Clear TITLE in Hand -- Mandatory
Must be a C5 Vette in the years 1997 --> 2004
Not more than 75,000 miles on the odometer

Six speed/manual shift
Removable Targa top
Heads-Up-Display
Magnetic Ride/Suspension Control -- it controls dynamically how the shocks react

2 or 3-person Memory Seat Control
Six position (Sport) electrically controlled Driver Seat
Three position electrically controlled Passenger Seat
Telescoping Steering Wheel

Good to excellent 'exterior' (nothing terribly visible)
Good to excellent 'interior' (no apparent wear)
A/C must be in excellent condition and blow Cold Air
Must have 90% of the treadlife or preferably 'new tires'
--preferably Goodyears or Michelins

Brake Pads must be relatively new and have at least 80% remaining
Transmission must produce positive & smooth shifts
Clutch must provide 'positive' and ‘strong’ feedback
--Clutch must be relatively new or at least in exceptional working condition

Recent 4-Wheel Alignment
Recent Balancing of all Tires
Clean title, no ‘frame damage’ or ‘rebuilt title’ or ‘salvage title’
--‘minor’ to ‘moderate’ damage professionally repaired is tolerable
--in my opinion 'all' Corvettes have had some kind of 'bump' or 'grind'
--the 'quality' of the repair is the saving grace

Optional:
'upgraded' Brakes, billeted & slotted rotors

'upgraded' Exhaust System, preferably Borla, etc

'upgraded' Air Input System would be good, like 'K&N', etc

having a 'second' Targa Top would be a good thing

the Vette must be 'road-ready' for a 'Long Trip'

Red, Black, Gray, Silver or Pewter exterior colors are acceptable
--any of the multi-coat 'metallic' or 'pearl' factory paints are acceptable

no 'custom' recoloring of the exterior paint is desired

'upgrades' to the engine are acceptable

'upgrades' to the suspension are acceptable

'custom' or 'upgraded' wheels are acceptable

Sorry about your car.

Just curious...............I wonder what DIC codes show up on a totaled Vette? Probably a boat load of everything.

Any updates on the insurance haggling? Also, did you get a confirmation on her having a license? I may have missed it, but did she get a DUI?

I'm looking into buying the Vette back from the insurance. I'll let you know what happens. Most of the is actually still good, so the buy back may be high.

I just prefer to tell the truth. Once you get caught in a lie, things spiral down from there. I told the truth and it didn't hurt me one bit. It likely helped my case.

I think every light on the dash had lit up right after the crash. I turned the car off and turn it back on and got the CE light... I'm sure the DIC was spouting off stuff, but I couldn't see it over the air bag.

Insurance is supposed to be checking out the car today. She had no license, but she had insurance. I'm hoping the insurance is real. They didn't perform a sobriety test on her. We believe she was asleep at the wheel.

Absolutely true.

One of the least appreciated features of a C5 is the excellent crash protection they have. That's one feature you hope you never have to use, but you're sure glad it's got it when you finally have to test it out.

Well, I just got off the phone with my adjuster. She told me the lady claimed I was making a left turn and that it was my fault.

Thing is that the police report says that I was going straight and that she didn't even know what happened. So her story is flawed... This just means I'm going to have to battle this now.
