Well, that was absolutely the longest I could imagine waiting for a decent settlement for my car, but it finally happened. Signing papers tomorrow to hand over my wrecked car.
The hunt is finally on. In the time I was waiting to get money from the insurance company, I paid $360 in interest on my car. LOL Anyway, I'm hoping to have a check within a week and be on my way to finally getting another Z06.
For those of you that are having the same problem getting the insurance companies to pay up, here's what I did and maybe you can find a way to make this work for you:
My second car ('90 300zx) which I use for a backup in case something like this happens just started breaking on me like crazy about 2 weeks ago. In one day, both the power steering and speed cable stopped working. After looking over the car and checking part costs, I realized that the cost of those two parts together were more than half the value of the car. This week, the car broke some more. The defrosters and brake lights are on the fritz (not a fuse and both separate issues) and the suspension's now making a nasty banging noise... To add insult to injury, the engine's over heating with plenty of coolant and going at freeway speeds. It's probably a head gasket. LOL
I told my lawyer to have my insurance company get me a rental while we sit here and wait for them to get in gear going into the 4th month waiting. Needless to say, the next day they had a number for me! HAHAHA... I should have done that from the beginning...
Are you kidding me?I just traded my 96 z32 n/a in on a C5 vette,I could of had 2 overheating, noise making, money chuggin Zs? When will life be fair too me? Glad you getting your money,And real talk Loved my Z but when it breaks its no joke!

Yep... I really loved my Z32, especially because it handled so much better than my Trans Am. I didn't drive it much while I had my Z06, but even when I wasn't driving it, I was still fixing crap on it. Those things are the worst money pit in the world. I was thinking of parting it out, but I'm just going to donate it.
Congrats! On with the hunt. Are you definitely going C5Z?
Yep. I can't imagine going with any other car! I don't want a C6 and I can't afford a C6Z. So C5Z is the next best thing to a C6Z. And honestly, I loved my C5Z so much that when I was offered a C6Z for only a couple thousand more than the C5Z, I was still good with the C5Z still.
Glad you're OK! The Vette is always replacable. I probably could not have stayed as calm as you did.
That's what everyone's saying. LOL
I just look at cars as objects. If they break you get a new one, and in my experience, I've never looked back at a car I've owned and said "I wish I still had my other car." Ever car has been better than the last. So I'm not so worried about losing a car to an accident. More of a glass is half full point of view.
Now if my GF was in the car, I'd probably have freaked out. I would have made her go to the hospital and what not, but since I didn't feel injured and the lady that hit me said she was OK, I didn't see any reason to panic.
White Oak / Victory intersection...know it well...Those wheels make it out ok? If they are for sale in Northridge.....PM me
The front driver's side wheel is damaged beyond repair. The back driver's side got hit a little too on the rebound, but it's repairable. The passenger side wheels made it out without damage. But honestly, they're not worth much without the matching left wheels since HRE doesn't make these anymore.
Anyone have a GOOD lawyer? My current lawyer is now in the hospital last I heard for open heart surgery that would have been done 2 weeks ago. I was not warned about this and his wife (who runs the other side of the practice) has not called me back with more information. I have not received my insurance companies settlement yet because my lawyer dropped the ball. WTF? I'm now a couple days shy of 4 months in with pretty much NOTHING happening on my case. Almost no progress has been made, and I feel I'm doing all the leg work.
My lawyer (before he went under the knife) said that I should accept 50% of the fault of the accident to get this over with. I said absolutely not. That's the last I'd heard from him. That day I'd brought over the paper work from the DMV for my insurance company to get all the information to send me a check for my Z06. That was over a month ago. The fact that my insurance company will not talk to me and will only talk to my lawyer has made things 400% worse than they could be. I say that because this part (the vehicle reimbursement) should have been done in the first month. Not the 4th.
Here's the biggest problems:
- As summer gets closer, the cars are going up in price, making the money I'm getting for my car less likely to buy me a car that completely matches the condition my car was in.
- I'm watching cars I'd like to buy right away disappear one after another...
- I'm STILL paying for my loan that the car was on and being that it was a new loan, the majority of what I've paid is interest. In these last 4 months, I've paid $804 in interest on a car I do not have. This is money I'm not going to get back.
- I'm STILL paying my insurance on that car because until they cut me a check, they cannot take that car off my account. They say they'll credit me that money to my account, but seriously, the $800 I've paid into insurance since the accident is money I could use to fix my 300zx that isn't driving (leaving me with NO car right now).
Dude, you need to get one of those ambulance chasing lawyers, they are pretty quick to get some dough...
Seriously! That's about to happen! LOL

So update:
I confirmed with my insurance company that they have the information needed to cut my check... They're going slow about it as usual, but supposedly they're working with my bank to get the pay off on my car and cut me a check.
I guess this means it *might* be safe to start looking for a car.
