insurance companies suck
you faithfully pay your premiums on time for years.... and then they drag their feet when it's time for them to make good on their side of the contract. its not like theyre doing you a favor by paying out promptly- its what they are legally bound to do!
insurance is a scam

Unfortunately, as much as insurance is a scam, they're willing to admit it while you're still forced to use it.

Default Who's at fault?

I know you stated she ran a red light, asleep?,but can you prove it. Did she admit it and is it in the police report? Are there cameras?

When she is in a clearer state of mind she may recant. The accident may be pushed onto you."That guy in the corvette came out of nowhere and I didn't have time to react, the light was green and.......Blah Blah Blah!" Don't ask me how I know.

I hope you don't have to deal with this, but be prepared. Folks will say some crazy stuff to dodge responsibility. I wish you success.

Wow, I missed a post. It sounds like the finger pointing has begun. Sorry.
The fact that your ins. co won't talk to you is scary.

She's already tried. Theres no HARD proof she was asleep. But there's proof that if she wasn't, she was negligent. She told the insurance company that I was making a left hand turn which the police report says otherwise. They also recorded that she didn't have any skid marks to prove she ever hit the brakes, which means she saw me but still didn't hit the brakes. Also, my skid marks come from the middle lane (not the turn lane) and are straight for 90ft before the impact. I was traveling at ~42MPH. My car ended up 20+ft in the direction she was traveling away from the impact. She was traveling at a slightly faster rate than me. Although I told the cops she was going about the same speed as me (which is what it looked like). The impacted area on my car combine with the skid marks from my car prove what she's saying isn't true. There's no way I could have been making a left hand turn from any lane and get the same results. So it gives no validity to her case and since I gave the cops everything about the accident, my story lines up perfectly with the evidence.

Finally have an update on my insurance stuff:

If anyone wants the wreck - $9K. (Let me know ASAP because I need to collect on the insurance soon)

2002 Z06 (electron blue)
Car had 32K miles.
Interior was in perfect condition. (minus the now blown airbags)
Motor was VERY strong and had no issues at all.
Trans shifted great. No issues.
No noises from the diff.
Believed to be Breathless Performance shifter.
Breathless Performance Vortex Rammer CIA
Aside from that bone stock.
Had all electronics options available.
All electronics and memory working perfectly. (I cleaned the grounds 1 month prior to the accident)
The only glass that broke was the driver side window. All other glass in good condition.

Driver's side front suspension is no good. Haven't inspected the passenger side up front but should be fine.
Driver's side front brake is likely no good.

View the pictures on the front page.

Sorry! Was wrong... I miss understood my lawyer. It's not 9K, it's a hair under 7K... (69xx, can't recall exactly right now, but he's sending me an email with the info.)

One of my friends has first dibs, but if he doesn't come up with the cash right away, it's up for grabs for anyone who can come up with the cash right away.

I was thinking 9K sounded way too high. I know I could have parted it out for way more than that, but I don't have the time at all for dismantling. Anyway, just an FYI.

Man sucks.... but I am glad you are okay... That vette gave her life to protect you... one last mission on this earth.

Be sure to get yourself checked out by a doctor. You dont want anything to be wrong later down the line that was hidden by the shock of the moment.

Sorry about that man.
Your health is the most important thing.

Now go out and get a FRC.
With the money you save over the Z06, drop in a LS-7 crate motor and have some fun.
That's what I'd do if I was purchasing again.

Actually, it's not the power of the Z06 I like so much since power can always be had for money. But there's a lot about a Z06 like the suspension and the gauges that I really like. Now even though the suspension can be changed, the stock suspension on the Z06 is perfect to me. And the Z06 gauges are just so nice. I didn't mind the standard Vette gauges until I started driving the Z06 and after that and looking at the standard gauges, I just can't go back. LOL

If only I was this wise back in Aug 09 when I purchased my C5Z.
You can then tweak the suspension etc with aftermarket to your needs afterwards.... Dang now all of FRC's will dry up after me saying this.

Most importantly,

Glad you are ok.
Many obviously think car is totaled.

I have two ideas:

1. From what I can tell, the horn looks good. Why not just jack up the horn, and put a new car under it.

2. Think "J B Weld."

Again, glad you did not get hurt.

LOL.... Most of the car is actually OK. My friend that wants to buy it wants to fix it and make it a running Z06 again. He does that for a living; selling salvage sports cars that his body shop fixes.

It needs about 4-5K worth of work. I know that my friend has a lot of the parts needed already and would probably have that car back on the road in a month. (I wouldn't buy it. LOL) But hey, someone out there may see a salvage low miles Z06 for 14K and buy it.

Glad you are OK. Shame about the Car. Hopefully, insurance will help you get another sharp Vette. On a side note: a few years back I was pulled over late at night. I had a few. And, probably was very close, if not over the "limit". The Cop asked me if I had been drinking. I told him No. He ran my license. And, sent me on my way. Bottom Line: no Cop stopping you is your "friend" or "cool". They will nail you every chance they get. If I hadn't "lied" I might have been walking for six months.

That car looks like it was hit pretty hard and wouldn't want to see it back on the road.

Let me know ASAP! I am looking at a few others but honetly yours would be my top choice even though it is the most money. I would use most of the parts off it to complete my own C5 Z06.

I know of a 04 Z06 with 1600 miles on it, new wheels (same size front and rear), Black and a real beauty. I think he was seeking 31900 but not sure. pm me for more if interested. Steve

I'd say there's a big difference between getting stopped and cops showing up on the scene of an accident. I've been stopped before where I had a drink or two and told the cop I hadn't. It's standard procedure to ask if you've been drinking on a night stop.

But either way I wasn't going to lie on the scene of an accident. If they did do a sobriety test for whatever reason after me saying no, I'd be totally screwed. But I know where you're coming from.

Will do. It was hit hard enough to jar the crap out of me. The fender was pushed to the steering shaft. But I don't believe anything even came close to touching the motor mount. I'm sure the car COULD get back on the road. I personally wouldn't ever buy it after that accident, but there's plenty of people that buy salvage cars.

Getting on the road again or its parts going to save another Vette would be fine with me. As long as it doesn't go to waste.

I'm making arrangements to buy CARacer's 04 Z. Only thing I'm waiting for is to see if I'm taking the buy back or not since they take the money out of the insurance check. Once I get the insurance check, I'll go pick his car up.
