I have a 1999 C5 6 speed manual.
The car has approximately 60000 miles.
At 40000 I changed the transmission fluid with Red Line D4 Automatic / Manual synthetic oil.
I think the car could shift with less effort with an additive.
Let me know if you can recommend a product.
Thanks.
Additives are not needed nor recommended in our trannys. I would simply try a different transmission fluid. I know that when I changed my tranny fluid to Mobil synthetic ATF, it greatly improved shifting. However, I think that you can't use synthetic fluid in '99's.
I just picked up my '02 M6 and had Royal Purple put in it. It makes shifting much easier than whatever was in it. I had to order it from Summitracing because I couldn't find it locally. I could find the engine/diff oil but the manual transmission fluid that RP recommended wasn't stocked anywhere locally.

I have heard of this issue about ten times and almost all of the stiffness and balky shifting was gone after draining and refill with Royal Purple ATF !

The people at RP recommended Synchromax not atf so that is what I used. They were very helpful in helping me locate the quantities I needed and helped answer a couple of suggestions. Not very often I encounter that level of customer service.
Amsoil is OK for the early transmissions. I've had it in mine for the last year or so. Its a MAJOR improvement. Much more than you would think from a simple trans fluid change.
