I am thinking about supercharging my 02 Z06, theres alot of choices, do you have to change valve train, I have 6700 miles on it. Like the motorcity sc hood also.
Go for it. You can keep using your stock heads the way they are.
What mods do you already have? I would say before going s/c you should have at least long tubes.
I'm guessing you want a twin screw since you're looking at aftermarket hoods... I have a procharger and use the stock hood. It's cool because you cannot tell that it's not stock
This would be a good thread for the C5 FI/NITROUS section
Its completely stock, if I go with a unit that fits under the stock hood there are more choices in aftermarket hoods and you can switch back to stock as long as I dont blend the paint for a new hood. I generaly like to keep things stock but after almost 8 years its maybe time for change.
Call Doug @ECS! My Paxton Put Down 551.7 on a stocker with bolt ons! Went an 11.06 Spinnin @126 on a 275/40R17 MT! Went back on a305/40R18 MT and pulled a 1.62 short time, theres my high 10 but shifter didn't like 3rd so blew the run. A Roots is not gonna give you those #s !!

I have a 03 Z and have been thinking of doing the same thing; Kenne Bell offers a twin screw complete kit that also comes with a new hood for $7,000.00 all of the reports that I have read are all positive and results were very impressive. My plan is also to go with long tube headers and high flow cats and three inch exhaust through some Borla's. The Kenne Bell system offers the bennifit of being able to upgrade the engine internal components and other bolt ons to make more power if you want it without having to do anything to the blower other than taking 4 minutes to change a pully for additional boost. Check them out and see what you think.
Hey marliner, I am in BG as well and have a 04 Z06 which I have kooks long tube headers & x-pipe. You should hear the sound, it sounds awesome!
But I purchased the A&A supercharger setup and having Mike Norris motorsports install it hoepfully next week in Indianapolis where his shop is. He has a great deal right now for $5,995 with install, tune, before & after dyno results only for the first three guys in. I am 1 of 3 in that I know so far. I am hoping I can drive up and drop it off next weekend, pretty much just waiting on A&A to ship the blower kit.
If you want to wait til another two weeks when I have mine installed I would be more then happy to meet you somewhere (maybe museum) and let you checkout my supercharged z06 and even take you for a ride.
About 4 years ago I made the decision to go with heads, cam, and all the usual bolt ons, instead of supercharging. The result is a very streetable 480+ RWHP car that now needs drivetrain improvement to be reliable. Got a twin disc clutch, and a trans brace to go in. I also bought an A&A Vortech system, because I really wanted one all along. Love the cam sound, but hate the stink, even with cats, so I also got a blower cam that reduces my overlap considerably. With only about 8lbs. of boost, I will probably have around 600 to the wheels, about 95% of which would have been obtainable without all the expense of most of my previous mods. Trust me, get longtubes, a centri SC, and a clutch. That'll keep you happy for a long time.
Looking forward to it BG04Z06 and thanks for the kind words
Feel free to give me a call if you want marliner. Since you are already leaning towards the Motorcity Mold hood possibly, this opens up some other options and I can go through each of them with you.

When they hear the centrifugal lath / blender making that typical clanking noise they will known it's blown.

Yeah. Not only does that sound give it away, it's annoying as hell. Makes it sound like something is wrong with your engine (at idle. And ProCharger is the worst). I love the sound of a twin screw. Quiet at idle and a delicious whine as you get on it. I just wish they didn't fall on their faces in the upper rpm range.

I thought that was the roots-style blowers, not a twin screw...... ?

I haven't noticed that with my KB.
You're right. I just assumed that a twin screw and a roots blower were the same thing. Not good. I Can't say I understand the difference between a Kenne Bell and a roots and a whipple for that matter. I know they are different and that both KB and Whipple supershargers are different than roots. I was thinking 2 rotors was the twin screw but I guess not. Thanks for pointing that out. Guess I'll do some more research to determine the difference for myself.
