Yes to the answer to your first question. I have used Mobil 1 products (oils and filters) for years in both Vettes and other vehicles. As to the answer to the second question, I don't know if they are the same, but I think that any filter that meets the manufacturers' specifications would be fine - to include WIX (which makes other companies' filters), as well as GM, Quaker State, or Pennzoil to name a few. A friend of mine has used Amsoil products and is forever touting the excellent properties of the oils and filters. I think it is more important to look at the specifications rather than the manufacturer, per se.

I've used Mobil 1 filters on several rigs, including the vette. Right now I'm using Purolator. With me it's six of one and a half dozen of the other as I change my oil every 3K. I read some good stuff about Purolator and that's why I'm trying them at this time. They're kinda spendy but there's nuthin too good for my little red car. I do use Mobil 1 oil, 10w30. I've used Fram filters on cars for many years with very good results. NAPA Gold filters are rally good, also.......

Little known fact,,,but a lot of the NASCAR bunch run WIX filters,,and NOT because they are paid to(although some probably are)! The shop that built my sharks 427 filled me in on these filters,,and runs them on HIS race engines. Mobile 1 filters are good filters,,but are a bit more restrictive. The base model FRAM and Purolaters are also junk. They use cheap internals and skimp on the filter media. Wix and NAPA gold are one and the same,,cant go wrong with them or the other brand name premium grade filters. Use a good filter and brand name full synthetic,,,change within the Oil Life Moniter percentages(or 1 year) and you are good to go!!! HAVE FUN,,,ENJOY!!!!

I used to use the AC-Delco filter on the vette untill this past summer. I had a trail of smoke behind me, that people tought my car was on fire, and it could have been. I will not ever use an AC-Delco filter again! I don't know something hit the side of the filter, or if the side wall was weak, but it was spraying oil on the side; I should have taken a video of the filter expanding/contracting with the engine revin up and down. I run Wix filters now too with QS Horsepower oil.

Both of these filters are made by Champion Labs, however they are completely different filters using different specifications. Both are very well made filters, as are any of the filters made by Champion Labs. Believe it or not the Supertech filters sold exclusively in Walmart are made by these guys as well! So just because a filter is cheap doesn't always mean it isn't good, as that Supertech filter is a fantastic value.

There are a lot of good oil filters out there, the Wix/NAPA Gold filters are definitely a great choice too, very well made and durable.

The only filter I would say to completely avoid would be the low end Frams, as they use cardboard endcaps. I know that there are millions of cars running these filters without problems, but for my money I want something put together a little stronger, and there are cheaper filters than them which are built better, so there is no point using them. I will say that the top end Fram filter, the Extended Guard one (AKA The Synthetic Oil filter) is very well made! In fact, it impressed me so much that I'm currently running one on my car! It's a completely different beast than the rest of the Fram lineup though, this one uses metal endcaps and a much better blend of 2 layers of filtering media.

I used to run DELCO Premium UPF-44 filters on my C5. I read here where some considered them restrictive.

I changed to WIX (or NAPA GOLD, same filter) and my cold oil pressure increased 10-15 psi. Since the C5 oil pressure sensor is AFTER the oil filter, more psi equals more flow.

Default Pretty Good Info on oil and filters

I always take my two car to my Chevy dealership, they are a good ride away, (45 miles) but I always have the same Technician, a GM master tech, who works on Corvettes Only for the dealership. But I take my own oil, and use their AC Delco filters. But anyway, Awhile back I bought a case of AC delco Ultragard filters UPF44 I think, but anyway, I was at Corvettes at Carlisle last year or the one before, I was talking to both a Automotive writer that we all have read and is pretty much an Corvette expert, but also a Tech rep. from Mobil oil, both of them said for me to send the case of AC Delco Ultragard filters back, stick with Mobil 1 5W/30 Synthetic, or any 5W/30 that meets GM4718M specs.

Their great filters and do an excellant job, but for the kind of driving most of us do, a Napa Gold or a Wix, AC Delco, Mobil 1 or most any other standard brand of filters is fine for what we do. It's a whole other bowl of soup if your tracking your car or drag or race your Vette. I know wix makes filter and they are colored or branded under a whole lot of different nameplates. As far as the last poster who had a hole in the side of his filter, I can't see a filter, any filter just developed a hole out of the thin air, something had to bounce up and hit your filter. Maybe a bullet or stone or something sharp. I've used AC Delco for years, maybe thrity, and I've seen them blow up, melt and other damages, but I've never seen one just start leaking from a mystery hole. I'm just glad you caught it and it didn't do any damage to your car.

For the first 3 oil changes this past year, I had used the stock AC Delco filter from Wal-Mart, like $3-4. I never had a problem in 20,000 miles, however . . .

I went to NAPA and bought 2 NAPA Gold filters for $6 each, a great deal as I have read nothing but good about them and they are easy for me to get at my local NAPA.

I would not hesitate to use whatever anyone on here recommends as they know what is what.

While it is extremely rare, it is indeed possible for an oil filter to develop a hole like that without being hit by road debris. If a manufacturer chooses to use a thinner canister than others, and there is a flaw in the metal as well (manufacturing defect for instance) then it could turn into a hole if the filter is subjected to extreme oil pressure (such as if you drove the car hard on a very cold morning when the oil was very thick)

After researching this subject for quite a long time I came to the conclusion that most filters (that meet OEM specifications) are good. Some stand out more than others but they will all do the job. What I look for is filtering capacity and flow rate. I found that Wix or Napa Gold are excellent. I am using a Napa Gold right now. I also like and have used FRAM Xtended Guard (not to be confused with standard Extra Guard). However, there are alot of forum members who refuse to use anything with the Fram name on it. I also like and have used AC Delco.

I use a Wix 51042 for the track, and an AMSOIL Ea Oil Filter (EAO32 for LS1/6) for the street. The AMSOIL EA Oil filters are 98.7% efficient at 15 microns as compared to about 80% for a typical synthetic blend filter.

Yeah, i have no idea as to what it was that made the hole or started that leak, but it sure scared me when I saw all that oil under my car. It was as it it was injecting/misting the oil out of the canister. It's also the first time I have seen it happen, and hopefully the last time it does too.

I think I had seen a thread a long while ago where a guy was using a K&N filter, and the wrench aided bottom part of it had bottomed out, and it made a hole in the botom of the filter.
