Reading the thread about the guy that had his stolen, it reminded me of an incident last month.
I was at the gym. I parked the Z06 at the other end of the parking lot, last spot in the row. Did that to avoid having cars parked on both sides, and the spots are wider. This one was a good 50 yards from the gym.
I walk out later and can see an SUV parked on the other side, in the thru way. I notice a guy standing between the SUV and the passenger door. I hear the alarm go off on the car. The guy jumps in the SUV passenger side, and it speeds quickly off and down around a corner. Too far away to get the plates or even a good description.
I get to the car. The alarm is going off. After silencing the alarm, I note the passenger door is still locked. Nothing missing, obviously.
Question, can someone using a slimjim to try and gain entry set off the alarm?
It's really easy to get a wire coat hanger in through the window and press the lock/unlock buton in these cars though.
I see what you are saying there. Maybe I'm mistaken in that the passenger door may have been unlocked.
The city (Rockwall, Texas) has been having a lot of car break ins lately. At "The Harbor" complex of shopping, resturants, and movie theater......they had 19 cars broken into in one month. Same issue with the shopping area where my gym is located.
Forgot to mention, that was the one day I left my Glock in the glovebox. It now goes into the gym bag. Nothing else in the car worth swiping. No radar detector, factory radio, etc.
(For those who's alarm bells went off about the Glock, I am a licensed CCW person.)

I was cleaning my car and had both sets of keys in the car and hit the door locks on accident and locked the keys in the car. Took a coat hanger and was in on my third bend of hanger, maybe 3 min.

This brings up a good question...what do the members of this forum use for security on your vettes? Do you trust the factory alarm or have you upgraded? Steering wheel lock devices seem to easy to get past.

On My 2000, if the car is locked with the key or FON and the alarm is on and the inside door unlock button is pressed the alarm goes off, on either side.
I wasn't worried about the Glock! What Model? I carry a Sig Pro!

Some sort of "cut-off" device?
The Club clutch/break pedal lock for me. Maybe even my M4 with ACOG and Surefire scout light attach. Haha !

I us this producte the club for the brake pedal.I gotta stand behind product. While in San Jose I left the key in Sacramento.I had to call 4 lock smiths companys before 1 came. Had a elecrtric cutoff wheel because it was on the pedal he could not get easy access to it so 2 hours later its off and he says that was one of the best anti theft device he has went up against. I went a got another that night. If he had to work like heck, the avarage bonehead aint moving any faster.
Like Jrose said, my car is never too far from me. It was an eye opening experience as to how quick my car could disappear. If they want it they can get it.
I went aftermarket on the alarm. I tried to do things in an unconventional way so its more difficult to circumvent. I picked a good security system and customized the install, added a few tricks, lots of noisemakers etc plus redundancy. I live in a safe area, the system I built is an overkill, but it was fun to design and install! I don't give out the details of what I did online...just to be safe. and if all else fails...its insured.

Just a question,, why keep a glock in the car ! If that ends up in the wrong hands people could be at risk
No insult intended but,,,,do you ever watch the news? Bad guys already have weapons,,,,,they bought'em, stole'em or traded for'em!
Good guys sometimes lose them to the bad guys but not often!
Well, if we were allowed to carry them, I would probably have one as well. But we just have to rely on help from the cops... we're such peaceful folks up here !
