I did something similar, but used a Deka battery. Same as the Odyssey, but 1/2 the cost. Been very happy with it.

What technology is it, gel, etc? FYI there was a good battery article in the last Vette Mag I received.

I don't remember, but google will pull up several sites. I have the 10lb version: Deka ETX14
I rarely drive the vette so I have to keep it on a trickle charger. Of course, I have to do the same when I have my red top Optima in it.

Good to know, these things have a long shelf life so i've been told so hopefully i'll get a few more years out of it before it needs replacing.
Looks like the Deka and the popular Braille batteries are the same just rebadged.

What do you think about running one of these lightweight batteries with an aftermarket stereo amp/sub? I called a shop on the Deka and Odyssey and they look up stock specs and say you 620 cca and these are rated at quite a bit less.

I have this hold down if anyone is interested:
It fits Odyssey PC680 and PC545 hold down HD680 - HD545
Probably will work for some other brands too.

To be honest, adding all that extra weight with the amp, subs and boom box equipment, is pointless with a lightweight battery. Why save 20 lbs. on the battery but to gain another 50 lbs. in stereo equipment? Besides, all that amperage drain is probably better suited for a deep cycle type battery,a bigger one such as an Optima yellow top, and it costs less too.

It seems to me that it would make even more sense to want to save extra weight on the battery if you're adding more weight in stereo equipment.

My point exactly battery reduction would be a good offset. Or more hp's.
