Default Corvette C5-R

Gentlemen,
I am looking to purchase a 1997-99 corvette and attempt to replicate the look of a C5-R, specifically the body kit and the graphics all over the car. I am only attempting to re-create the look of a C5-R and not the performance.

I don't know where to start once I purchase a used corvette. Any help? Has anyone seen this done? I've searched the web and can't find any replicas. Perhaps a business that does this kind of work would greatly help me.

Thanks

i think you will be pretty hard pressed to find a front fascia, fenders, quarter panels, diffuser, side skirts, doors, and spoiler that look just like the c5r. not even sure if it would look right on a regular vette, as im pretty sure the c5r has longer suspension arms and a wider body. your wheels would be way inside the fenders unless you got some serious deep dish wheels.

They are around. Bigger question is how deep are your pockets?

Full body kit will run quite a bit

yes the C5R was 6" wider and 2" lower then a normal C5

The body kit at Mid-America, is not a real C5-R body kit. Actually it is not even close. To really make it look like the true C5-R, you are looking at a lot of money. There was one in one of my old magazines, and I don't remember what the total cost was, but it was way up there. I will see if I can find it and repost.

Here are the differeences in the true 1999 C5-R

and the body kit.

Actually this 1999 C5-R sold at auction for $50,000.

I just can't imagine why you'd want your basic street C5 to look like that. It's your car and your money, good luck.

I thought there was someone here on the forum a while back that had at least did some work on making their car look like a C5R. Perhaps using the search function would yield something.

Yes there is. He had to get special permission form Corvette Racing and Pratt & Miller to do the graphics.
He has a C5R and C6R replicas. IIRC each car cost more then $100,000 over the price of the car to do the body work and graphics. But nothing under the body work.

Now if the OP wants something close or a racing C5, we can find him several. in the $80,000-$200,000 plus range. Just look for Old Speed World Challenge cars for sale.

and those drop spindles run ~ $5,000 a set.

Here is something close:

JUST REFRESH COMPLE A RILEY & SCOT WITH PRATT AND MILLER UPGRADE EVERYTHING IS NEW WITH 2 ENGINE, ONE WITH 30 MINUTE RACE 18 DEGREE CHEVY 690HP , ANOTHER SB2 ALUMINUM BLOCK NO TIME ON IT JUST THE DYNO 730HP BOTH ENGINE ARE MADE BY PHIL HARPER MOTORSPORTS, CORVETE CARBON FIBER BODY NEW, 18 AND 16 INCHES WHEELS, NEW RAIN TIRES MYCRON DASH, WEISSEMAN TRANS, FORD 9 INCHES WITH TRUTRACK, NEW BRAKES

$165,000 - Click here

On a stock street car???

There was a guy in England who ruined an '03 Zo6 with a full decal package and a wing trying to replicate a C5r. Painted the azz end black too.

It was a story in Corvette Enthusiast magazine and I could only chuckle after I was done reading the article and flushed the toilet.

Invest in some nice wheels, lower it, and perhaps a cool hood. It'll look better, and will probably be a lot cheaper as well.

Why do that at all? I could see if you were going to race it on weekends but still you would want as much performance out of the car as possible. Why not buy an old ferro and clone it? I saw a pontiac fiero cloned into a Ferrari GTO. Looked pretty good but its still an old fiero.

On the Compuware race car it looks good but not the regular car below it.

I saw a guy who made a C6R replica at the Corvette Corral at Petit Lemans.

When I was taking photos, I thought it was a C6R, it was not until I got up close did I see the interior, and that is was a C6 not a C6R.

I have to say it was very cool

Great C5R body kit. Can't even tell them apart.

That is not a body kit. That is a Pratt & Miller C5-R. It was a show car, but also listed as the backup car. Here is a small part of the article in Vette Mag.
"1999 Chevy Corvette C5-R Show Car
Sale Price: $50,600
This is the actual backup race car from the '99 Rolex 24-hour endurance race. It features a modified production LS1 engine capable of 600 hp at 7,200 rpm."

I'm commenting on the C5R versus the Major Corvette Parts Supplier's version of the C5R body kit on the picture below the C5R.
