Default Zo6 engine blown after cam install

hello,

I have a buddy with a c5 z he just did a cam install and then put in a custom tune from a vender. The car was running great until the second day on his wat to work at 5k rpm ka boom........ oil and anti freeze every where. he also installed new springs and a ls2 timing chain. the car is now at RPM but has not been worked on yet. Does anyone have any ideas. I know this gut very well he does great work but he is beating his self up thinking he did something wrong...
any help would be great.

Also the car wil not turn over.

My guess would be a rod bearing problem.

If it was a big CAM or aftermarket heads it could been a PTV issue.

Piston to valve does not explain the coolant everywhere unless it dropped a valve and kicked a rod out.

Maybe a rod let go, not very common but if there is oil and coolant everywhere I wouldn't be surprised if there was a hole in the block.

ok, this may sound stupid but i have no idea who your friend is so im going to ask.

What Valve Springs did he put in??? if he didnt use a good enough valve spring it couldve broke a spring (if he didnt have duals) the valve couldve dropped and thus the Catastrophic Failure!!

This exact thing happened to my friend (who is another member here). He installed his new 408 and put a VERY LARGE camshaft in the motor without checking PTV clearance. He was trying to break the motor in and the first time he got it above 5000 rpm, the motor let go.

Not saying this was the case, but has the cam been used in another LS6 before? Or was it a custom grind?

PTV ( piston to Valve ) clearance issues could be a possibility

But my guess is

Who build the engine? did the owner do his own engine?

if the owner build his own engine, and is not an experienced engine builder, there is your answer.
