After watching most of the ROLEX 24, I began to wonder why we do not see sequential gear-boxes in more sports cars....and of course Corvettes. I can only assume that it is cost-related and maybe a general re-learn for drivers.
I have always enjoyed the ease of operating a sequential in my bikes, never use the clutch for upshifts and barely a nudge for downshifts. It would be cool, and in looking at pictures it does not seem to be a major packaging issue. In fact, the sequential units are much slimmer than H-boxes for sure.

Vanquish had an electronically shifted T56
Toyota MR-S had a sequential manual as well.
And LG Motorsports has successfully put an EMCO sequential trans into a C6. However it's LOUD.
Mose race transmissions are noisy (listen to the 4spd h-pattern transmissions in a Nextel car or an old m-22 rock crusher). It's engineered for ultimate durability w/o any noise considerations.

Precisely what I'm talking about. Those trannies have straight cut gears. Just like 18 wheelers.
Guess I'm a traditionalist I like the H myself,,not to mention MUCH easier and quicker to hit neutral in traffic!! I must admit I DO like it on my bike though!!
The length of the shifter is to allow shifts under full throttle and no clutch disengage. It takes quite a bit of effort to engage the dog-clutches. In those vids, you can hear the friction transfer as he prepares to up and down shift.
You see much shorter shifters on true racing cars, but you will also notice they really hammer the shifter every time.
