for all who have swapped out the stock audio system and replaced it with an in-dash NAV unit, where did you find the easiest and most effective place to locate the NAV antenna for perfect reception??
thanks for the help and suggestions.
I put the "hockey puck" antenna for the Garmin 2610 on top of the steering column (under the dash) with velcro. It is out of sight and I have never had a signal loss. 2003 Vert.

tiny 3m double side tape, placed by on front dash right next to the front windshield , a few inches from the HUD. no cords in sight, can't see the receiver while driving.
Remove one tail light, make a small angle bracket out of a 8"x3" piece of sheet metal, bend it to form a right angle, drill a 1/4 inch hole in one face, remove one nut off the bolt you see when you look in the empty tail light hole, slide the bracket onto the bolt, replace the nut, stick the antena to the horizontal part of the bracket, and replace the tail light.
Rear section is non metalic and wont interfere with the GPS signal, totaly out of sight.
The shop that installed my GPS system, placed the antenna on the dash at the bottom of the windshield. I didn't like the antenna sitting where I could see it. So I started looking around and found a perfect place, out of sight and reception is great. I just pulled the A-Pillar cover on the drivers side. I used a little silicone ahesive and mounted the antenna at the base of the A-pillar. Popped the A-Piller cover back on and was good to go. It took all of 5-10 minutes, out of sight and reception was just as good as when it was sitting on the dash in plain sight. It's been working great for years.
I sat mine on top of the rear view mirror. I took this shot from below eyeline so you can see it better. The flash has caught the white of the underside. From the normal sitting position its near invisible. The wires run along the top of the windscreen 8under the trim and down the passenger side door pillar.
It has a great view of the sky so reception is perfect. The advantage of mounting at the front is that the run to the H/U is short so you dont get the cable losses for a rear mount so signal/noise is better.

That's where mine is. Except I just silicon glued my bracket to the back of the trunk compartment.
many thanks for the pictures and suggestions. glad to know i have a variety of options to choose from that are effective.
when i put a factory NAV unit in my wife's hemi magnum, the factory specs called for it to be mounted just above the steering column behind the gauge cluster. of course that required half disassembly of the dash, and left me scratching my head for a better solution (read here "easier" solution, lol). after looking at my options, i was able to maneuver the antenna with a piece of doublesided tape into position on top of the a/c vents right under the dash pad (cut the crap out of my hands doing it from the unfinished edges of the vents, lol), but it has been perfect since the day i installed it over 2 years ago.
