Default X-Pipe Location

Does anyone know if the location of the X-Pipe makes a difference on performance?

The headers that JWMotoring will be making available look like they place the X-Pipe in front of the cats, as the headers merge. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ooks-lg-3.html

Other suppliers seem to place them near the rear, just before the exhaust pipes split.

I think you are looking at that backwards. Looks like the cats are just after the collectors, then the x-pipe.

That system looks very similar to the dynatech system.

EDIT...nevermind, I was looking at the OBX system. The cats later might present a problem with the rear O2s if you plan to hook them up. Seems like you'd need extensions.

Supposed to give a tiny bit more top end power. Makes the cats even less effective though!! The main reason long tubes are not legal is because it sets the cats too far back to get a quick "light off". This would put them even farther back, The small difference would not be worth it IMO!! X further back,,supposed to give an increase in torque!!

yes it does

Put the x-pipe as far back as possible, and lower end torque increases.

Put the x-pipe closer to headers and higher end HP increases.

granted it is only a few ponies or lb ft difference

How would placing the X-Pipe in front of the cats affect the flow into the cats? I would think it would increase turbulence into the cats, and cause possible issues with their effectiveness.

Any thoughts on this?

The cats by virtue of its design would straighten out the flow. If you have ever looked in,,Its like hundreds of little straws stacked together!! Not to mention there has to be SOME length of pipe in front of the cat. Then factor in the velocity of the flow and it cant be doing too many things but going straight through!! That's My take!! My only issue is,,cats need to be as CLOSE to the exhaust port as possible to operate efficiently and effectively. They need HOT exhaust gas to work properly!!
