Today while l was in my garage l dropped something and it rolled under the back of my car and when l was reaching for it l looked up and behold! It looked like new, l was amazed and tried to look under the middle of the car but there was no room.
While l was thinking about it l realized that the only time that l took it out was when it was a clear day and when l washed it the water never got there.
In fact the only time that l can remember being out in questionable weather was the 8 hr drive home when l picked it up with 12,000 miles ago and 4 yrs ago.
I am going to check under the front of the car to see what it looks like tomorrow when it hits 50 degree's.
The only thing that l ever checked for was leaks when l moved it out of the garage which l never had.
Could this just be a blind spot and it's a common thing?
I keep mine on jackstands all winter and go out in the garage and detail the underside in the winter when I'm bored, just for kicks.
I went as far as to remove the two metal fuel tank shields and wash them in the kitchen sink with a scotch brite pad. I also removed the access panels in both front inner fenders and cleaned up behind them. The passenger side panel has behind it the PCM whick I removed from its bracket and cleaned up everything like new.
Nothing was too dirty to begin with, mostly just dusty. It all looks assembly line new now!
If I ever sell this car I'm going to make sure I have it up on jacks with the wheels removed when the buyer arrives. That way they will be able to appreciate what good shape it's in top to bottom. I can then toss the wheels on it and drop it down if they want a test drive.
It's nice because of the closed off design allows for smoooooth air flow. I suppose that helps keep it clean. I'm at 48K and it still looks near new underneath.

And l thought l was a little off. During the winter l clean the inside of my coupe even though it doesn't need to be cleaned. Before l forget l picked up at Target made by Invisible Glass a device to clean the windows that is awesome. It looks like a paddleball racquet with a triangle shape on top. You can really get down where the windshield meets the dashboard.
Oh getting back to the cleaning l also go around the car looking for imperfections and note them if any for the spring touch up.
Anyway you gave me a terrific laugh but l have to admit that even though l'm a little off your a mental case
I wonder how many sick people like us are out there.

I look under the car every time I wash it (I clean the underside of the car too) and when I change oil. Helps me keep aware of any leak issues should they occur.
I always crawl under mine and inspect, but usually there is not much to give attention too - I do reach under there and wash it with a wash brush when I wah the Vette
even though I am in the Chicago-land area I clean mine on my regular basis all year long, at least once a week. Some people think it is a little nutty, but I say if it's your hobby what does it matter? Enjoy!

Same here.
I usually check underneath after almost every time I drive it, especially to make sure that the radiator is free of any debris. Also been under it lately since I'm raising the suspension back up a little and for the C6 sway bar and endlink install.
Yup that sounds like spring fever. My wife usually looks at me strange when I am laying on my back getting all wet with the hose and I detail the under carriage. If I had a lift in the garage I would probably go over the deep end and start polishing it.
The underside of my '99 already had 65k of wear on it so it was too far gone to bring back..... not that I'd have the patience for that anyway. I do pull the wheels off once a year and detail the wheelwells/barrels/calibers, etc. Otherwise I pretty much stick to the stuff you can see.
My '99 with 27K is pretty awful. Some prior owner drove the car over some salted roads and there are a couple of places where oxidization has reared its ugly head.
