Default Looking for opinions

I was thinking of removing the mufflers and having a muffler shop here weld some pipes in the place of the stock exhaust and put some nice tips. I am planning on leaving the stock cats and everything else. I contacted the shop here that has done exhaust's for me in the past and they said that they would do it for $80.00 not including the tips.

What do you guys think, do you think that its going to be too loud even with stock cats on it?

1) It's RUBE
2) It will sound bad.
3) Who takes a (what used to be) a $40K plus car and does this besides REDNECKS?
4) It will make it harder to sell later with NO MUFFLERS ON IT.
5) Do you need a reason for the cops to pull you over?

Need more reasons?

yeah probably not a good idea. but its up to you if u dont drive it much or the cops dont bother you in your area then go for it. as far as sound im guessing its going to be very loud and obnoxious i have bb bullets in my car and those are really loud. at the end of the day its your car and you should do what you want to it. maybe look for a used exhaust on this forums they are real easy to install

seems like it would be better to do the "bypass mod" where a short
piece of pipe is welded into the bend before/after the muffler.. have seen several on here that liked the sound - and your muffler shop could likely do it for not a lot of $$. I think straight pipes would be too loud.

I think people on the forum have done this. It is very loud and not a real good sound quality. The appearance isn't usually very nice.

Sounds like you should try the bypass mod instead. It's cheap to do and it does give your car more rumble without being obnoxious.

I would say go Borla Stingers if you want some music to come out the back (if you have a 6 speed)... If not, then the bypass mod will get you some volume for sure.

Well I CAN speak from experience.I have Corsa Touring,,where the mufflers are clamped onto the exhaust pipe. For a trip to the strip I tried taking the mufflers off and made a turn down that I clamped on to keep the hot gas from blowing into the rear fenders.had them turned down a d back a bit. Since I was going again the next week I drove around for about a week and a half or so. Stock cats and H-pipe. First,,it did not sound really bad,,,BUT it did NOT sound all that good either. Two,,it DRONED like crazy around 60-65!! THREE,,the motor boat idle was very pronounced. As ling as you were not jumping on it ,,it CAN be driven around town without drawing that much attention. Aftermarket systems serve a key function. Yes they are much more free flowing,,that is where the increased sound comes from,,,BUT one thing they do is absorb/deflect much of the obnoxious sound tones,,leaving the more acceptable/desirable tones tones. Yes you can do it,,but it's not all that great!!

Maybe i'm not reading this right, but I'm pretty sure that SLP already has an exhaust like this:

From what the OP was saying, it sounded to me like he was going to do this but custom instead of spending way too much for an SLP part.

I bypassed the muffler on a 94' Z28/Vert. long ago. Fairly quiet when it was warmed up with the cats. in place, but lookout when you nail it. I actually received numerous comments from folks chasing me down on how good the car sounded - some from the AARP crowd..... Again, it will be loud when you get into it......

The reason that I was thinking of doing this was because I was looking into buy the borla system that had no exhaust anyways so why not save myself $400.00.
