I use Simple Green, a bucket of water with a soft brush. I recharge with a mixture of mineral oil and alcohol in a small spray bottle. The alcohol will evaporate leaving the oil.

What type of filters are they? Are they generic EBAY filters? A little information or images might help.

Generally speaking, you can clean the media in a stream of water and either a cleaning kit or diluted SIMPLE GREEN. Rinse from the inside out.

Allow them to air dry thoroughly before you reapply oil to the media. Do not use compressed air.

Once completely dry, apply the oil to the media sparingly on the top of the pleats. Allow it to wick down over time. Do not over oil or you risk contamination of the MAF. K&N kits use an aerosol, which is why many tend to over oil. The S&B kits use a measured syringe which I prefer.

I use gasoline. it rinses all the dirt out and evaporates quickly so nothing is left over

I use simple green and water, then I let air dry. I use a K&N recharge kit with the spray can..just have to be careful not to over-oil..I have never had any issues doing it this way.

Yes, low flow water from the inside out, simple green or K&N cleaning solution. You compressor air dry but "DO NOT BLAST AIR LESS THAN 1 or 2 INCHES from cotton". Best to air dry overnight, then lightly oil with correct cotton gauge oil. I do mine when I get home after a drive, leave overnight, oil in the morning.. They are the best filters for your vehicle.. Enjoy the ride.

I agree with the others here re: cleaning, etc.

Tip: Remove and discard those "steal" hose clamps you seem to have unless you want to go to jail. Get some stainless steel ones.

There isn't a single after market filter manufacturer that suggests using compressed air for removing the moisture from their media. Unless it's yours, then do with it as you please! And I've never seen a manufacturer suggest gasoline or any other solvent. Just use the product the companies offer. It's safer for the media and the user.

Compressed air will damage the fiber construction of the media. It opens the fibers, allowing contaminants into the engine.

Here's the cleaning instructions for VOLANT filters. It specifically says not to use compressed air...at any distance. Shake the filter dry, allow to air dry thoroughly, then oil if the filter requires it. Some media doesn't use oil.

http://volant.com/cleaningInstructions.pdf

If the original poster decides for any reason to change his filters to another manufacturer, S&B FILTERS (and I believe so does now) K&N FILTERS now offer custom made filters to a customers specs. They will keep the specs in their database for future reference.

S&B offers their media in blue or red, chrome, colored or black rubber end caps, and any shape imaginable. The cost isn't much more than an off the shelf filter, either. Turn around is quick.
