My advice, if you have to ask----don't buy one!

Should you buy a Corvette? If you want to have the most fun you have ever had in a car, then yes. If you want people starring at your car like its the only one on the planet, then yes. If you like hearing comments like that is the most beautiful, bad *** car I have ever seen as you ride bye with the top off and windows down, then yes. If you enjoy the feeling of being thrown back in the seat as you accelerate through the gears, then yes. I could go on with the reasons but you should get the point. If you answered no to these questions then a Corvette is probably not the car you want. I have a 2002 and other than the gas gauge acting up now and then it has been trouble free. The biggest problem with these car is the cost of modifications, they can become addictive and are not cheap. Good luck with your decision.

Go for it. I was apprehensive at first but after I pulled the trigger, Ive never looked back. The forum has been great for the DIYs too.

Nah, compared to the Impala a vette is way to much fun and work.

Get the C5. While any car can have its share of problems, the C5 is typically a very reliable platform. Keep the maintenance up and the car will last a long time.

Great car. If you want it as a daily driver its depends where you live. Warm climate with very little or no snow go for it.

There are some issues with electrical ground locations, the turn signal flasher is the emergency flasher and they commonly go bad, lots of people have Body Control Module failures, injector wiring harness rubbing wires bare and causing misfire codes, excessive heat through the tunnel plate, seats rocking, diff seal leaks, water leaks into the passenger compartment, gas tank failure on the 2004, fuel tank sending unit failures, etc.

The C5 is 6 t0 10 years old now. Stuff breaks and goes bad.

Well, are you married?, more than two in the family?, do you have a dog?, girlfriend from Berkeley Calif. (you know the green evironment type)?, if any of the above, NO.. But if not, then yes, it is a great vehicle for what it was designed for. Just know the limited of the vehicle and you will be fine. As someone stated, it would be a great second car, if your primary one is a Honda or a Toyota, you then can pick up a girl in Berkeley.

It's a great car, repairs are no different than any other car. Just make sure that the one you get has been well taken care of. Ask for all the service records. Happy shopping !

I've bought a '02 C5 Couple M6 with 10K miles in summer of 2006. I've put 40K miles on it since then and so far I had no problems. Keep the car well maintained and pamper it every once in awhile, it'll go long ways.

Never regretted buying it!

Make sure you get the car checked throughly at a Chevy dealership or a good shop of your choice. The money spent on this inspection will save you a ton of money and headaches in the future. I have a 98 C5 coupe with 77k miles, third owner, very reliable except for "service ride control" problem which was a bad ignition switch and cost me half and hour worth of my time using detailed instructions and photos posted here on a DIY thread.

After 3 weeks of ownership

I'm coming out of a 2007 Mustang GT convertible that I purchased new (actually ordered from the factory) that has been nothing but trouble. I've owned a lot of nice cars, but nothing, and I do mean NOTHING is like owning a Corvette. Mine gets lots of attention and is an absolute blast to drive. It accelerates and handles great and has an extremely good ride for a performance car. My wife loves the ride compared to the ride of our 07 Mustang GT and especially compared to our previous Mustang, a 1996 Cobra. The Corvette does have a few limitations that you'll have to adjust to, especially coming out of something the size of an Impala, specifically in the area of cargo carrying capacity. For me, the trunk is almost as big as it was in my Mustang. Another issue is the lack of convenience items like cup holders (although there is an aftermarket solution available for sale on this site) and the storage compartment in the console could be bigger. Those are very minor things compared to all of the things that I really enjoy about the car. And the gas mileage on these cars is truly amazing for a car with this kind of power.

The only car I have ever owned to provide me with 60k miles and absolutely 0 dollars in repairs, just sold at 111k was my Acura. Both of my C5s have had minor issues that are pretty easy to fix. Compared with my 2004 Sierra Denali, these cars are Gold!

I say go for it, I bought my C5 2 years ago on Good Friday.
I always call that GREAT FRIDAY,
I never intended it to be mt daily driver but it was so much fun I could not help it.
Me and that car have been from Canada to key west and New york to Arkansas,
In 2 years I put over 100,000 miles on it and aside from normal maintenance nary a problem.
Right now it has close to 220,000 miles on it.
It has never failed to get me where I was going and back home even after what I did to it last week.

pics here
http://www.jeffsfireworks.com/wreck.htm
After getting it out if a muddy field and cleaning enough mud off the wheels to get it moving it still ran like a charm.
When I drove it to the body shop the next day I went close to a mile with my hands off the wheel just to see how damaged the frame/alignment may be and it was straight as an arrow and still had the power to embarrass some local ricer who pulled up and laughed at me at a light when he saw the damage. I am not going to say much but lets just say he was not laughing long. I am sure his pride was hurt but nowhere as much as mine was the night before and being able to do that to him was great therapy for my mood.

Plus the guys here are a great support group if you have problems.

I also want to point out that the wreck would most likely not have happened had I not failed to make sure the Traction Control was plugged in correctly when I had part of the console off earlier in the week. I am not blaming the car I have from day 1 said the wreck was 100% MY FAULT.

When I show people that if I Drive it easy and keep my foot out of it I can get better MPG than most cars on the road the do not believe me.

Get the Berkley girl to ride with you on a nice long interstate ride an 70-80 and show her that you can get between 30 to 35 MPG and you still have a chance with her.
I can honestly get 2 to 3 MPG more when I can find 100% gas with no ethanol but that is getting harder and harder to find. The places that sell it are always busy even if there is a big box place next door with gas 2 or 3 cents cheaper.

sometimes if you really want to have fun find one of those guys that will drive across town to save 2 cents on a gallon of gas. Normally those guys are worse the higher gas is. Sit down and put it on paper and show them how much money they loose by driving those extra 10 miles to save 2 cents in 15 gallons of gas.
That is .30 cents saved. 95% of the time they lost money and wasted gas.

I have 2 C5's, except for a few very minor problems, they run great and have fun with both.

Jeffwilson34... Yes, ditto to that. I took the C5 for a ride up to Napa and I did my best to just drive like my MOM. I averaged 29 mpg, now how is that for gas mileage. What other vehicle has the look, the feel, the power and return gas milage of a 4 banger.. GM did a great job of marriage between power and fule economy. I even left the CAGS (1st to 4th) in place, under the right conditions, it helps saves gas, I have accepted it and haven't had a real issue with it coming on from time to time. GM gets an A+ on the C5 and I'm starting to like the looks of the C6, not too sure on the C7's looks but who knows...
