Lots of C5 are seeing 200,000 miles some are approaching 300,000 miles.
If you go past any dealership, you will find brand new cars up on a lift being repaired.. A C5 is typically a very reliable car. The one thing you wont get with your SS is a big wave, and a daily smile on your face driving the only american sports car on the planet. Ive owned Corvettes for 50 years.. if you want to get the feeling, go and read the thread I started called " It never gets old."
I can gaurantee you that you have never had a similar experience... Its almost as if, every time I get in my car, it's the first time...

There has only been one car that I have I owned I know for a fact I would cry if something happened to it.
How do I know, I crashed it and even though the damage is cosmetic only, the day I wrecked I sat there and cried, I cried again when I drove it to the repair shop, cried when the adjuster wanted to total it.
and had a few tears when the body shop let me sit behind the wheel to listen to the radio just because I missed it.
I swear I am not some big crybaby and are usually the one that nothing bothers, so far I have found 2 things that upset me. One is hurting my corvette, the other is anything to do with doctors offices and needles.
I once passed one when getting blood taken from my arm.
The nurse laughed and said its always the big men. I was not the 1st person that had that happen to and every time it had been men,
My first true American sports car is the 1999 C5 Corvette coupe. I've had Supra, 280ZX and can only compare to them on a pers. level. I've driven Lotus Elite, 1999 Viper V10, 911, Ford Mustang and C4 Corvette, from the different car clubs I've either been a member of or knew someone. The C4, although the design impressed me on paper, did not impress me on the road, it squeaked and flexed so much it was not fun to drive on rough roads, it did have the power and handled well. You just can't beat a V8... The C5 is like night and day to the C4, it is solid, handles great driven hard or soft (you drive this soft 90% of the time and it is very comfortable for a sports car). Then you can push her hard and she will handle anything you throw at her. I am a true C5 owner and love this vehicle. I am planning to get a C6 in a few years but will be keeping the C5 because I love the body style and lines.. I think you will be a happy camper if you pick a C5. Good luck and Enjoy the ride in what ever you select for your sports car.
