I don't think anyone kids themselves into believing that the C5 is a new car - but it is a car that has classic lines, still competitive performance and puts a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel. Not many new cars can claim those attributes.
I was at a car show and some early 90' Ferrari with the flip up lights had a huge crowd. I went and nothing special about it. Looked stock and looked exotic. Some stick out in the crowd. C5's is one of them. I would rather check out a 96 Porsche with the whale back than a brand new 2010 911 160k car.
I would rather look at a 99 Diablo than a new Gallardo. 91 300ZX over a 2010 370Z. 93 Cobra over the new ones. Testarossa over new Ferraris. Older 90's and 00's Camaro's over the new ones.
I have driven Corvettes almost exclusively since 1972. Never kept one over 4 years (except my first Show Corvette that I never drove).
I still cannot believe that I have driven the same car every day for almost 10 years!!! Looks and drives like new. The way I maintain it, unless someone piles into me on the street, I think it will outlive me!
Still the best looking car ever built under 100K IMO.

Definitelly, I love those whale back porsches. There was one here in tow a couple of years ago by my parents house, and I would always drool over that car; the owner told me that he had it serviced in Kansas City every so often. There is also a red testarossa running around that the guy uses as his DD, and was at the last local car show, and if I am right, I have also seen a yellow one from Oklahoma here in town.

i have an 01 with 17,000 miles and a guy i work with asked how i can afford a new 65,000 dollar car when i brought it to work, when i told him how old it was he ran over and checked the registration thought i was lying, lol
It may be an "older" car, but the uneducated public thinks my car is a new one all the time. I think the C5 was very well designed and is "aging" well.
I was at the gas station on Easter and a guy (looked like in his 50's) asked if my Vette was a new 010. I said no. This car is 10 years old. He simply could not believe it. So I showed him my license plate: "2KVETTE". It made my day.... These cars are really aging well
the only thing that makes a c5 look dated is the headlights. The lenses look like they belong on a 1984 oldsmobile. thats why i bought some ACA projector lights.
I am just going to say this. The C5 may be older, but anyone who dosen't know anything about Corvettes, does not know this. I have seriously thought about getting a C6 just because of it being new. 9 out of the 10 people I talked to about it said, keep the C5.

since mine isn't a daily driver, and i use it when i want to not when i have to, it may take on a different meaning for me. since i own an "old" vette also (78 pace car), i never think of my C5 as an old car (mine is an 04 CE convertible), honestly i have never even thought of it that way. for what it's worth, i have never been a fan of the C6 styling and i guess as such, i have never drooled over it or coveted it, or even to this point thought of owning one. at 66+ year of age, i guess i still believe that vettes should have hidden headlights and not look like they were backed into a wall, but hey, that';s why there's chocolate and vanilla, and opinions, lol! admittedly this one is mine.
The cool factor of a vette is timeless and ageless. To those that get it, vettes never get too old. I got my 99 in 2009 and like it more with each passing day and mile.
Some folks like Porches some Mercedes others like what ever they like.
I've always admired vettes and now I own a C5. It is the coolest car I have ever owned no matter how old it is. There is nothing like going through the gears listening to the pipes with the top down.
I don't care how old it is. It is seven years old but very new to me. With only 12,000 miles, in many respects it is almost a new car. In some respects, mostly technology, it is not, although it is technologically superior in many ways to the 2007 Mustang GT it replaced. As has been already mentioned in this thread, no one but Corvette owners really seem to know or care about the fact that these cars are aging.
I also own a boat-a 1999 Bayliner 2855, which is in nearly-new condition. I've had it for two years. When people get on or are around my boat they seem to be impressed with its layout, spaciousness, and overall condition. Nobody seems to know or care about the fact that it is eleven years old. Much like the Corvette, most people think it is new. By comparison, my buddy and his wife had to have a brand new SeaRay 260. While it is brand new, it is 3 feet shorter and a foot narrower than my Bayliner. They spent $23,000 more on the SeaRay than I spent on the Bayliner and the Corvette combined. They owe money on the SeaRay and I own both the boat and the Corvette outright.
The way I look at it, I'm pretty darn fortunate. I'm 54 years old, fully retired from a career that I thoroughly enjoyed (U.S. Marine Corps), have a great wife and family, live a block from the ocean, have a nice boat and drive a Corvette. Like most, my life has had is fair share of challenges and setbacks, but they for the most part are behind me. A dozen years ago when my life, reputation, finances and security clearance we're all being dragged through the mud of divorce by my now former ex-wife, I would have never ever believed that I'd be as fortunate as I am today. The Corvette is and will always be the icing on the cake for me.
Having just turned 92K mi on my daily driver 2000 coupe, as an owner it is always a pleasure to get in and drive my car. Sure it has it's little issues that seem to be multiplying with each year (mostly electrical gremlins, nothing major) I still smile every time I get in and still get a lot of compliments from others even though it is is far from mint. I just had the cable guy out to my house this weekend and the car was sitting in the driveway and is a little dirty (I know, don't yell at me) but the guy still said "Wow, nice car. Is that a 2008?" I'm not sure how he came up with that year, but goes to show that its still a great looking car even when its dirty!

Even my wife likes it and she hates sportscars!
Halfway through the test drive of the 2003 that we purchased my wife hadn't said a word so I asked her what she thought of the car. Her response was, "If you're going to get one of these, get this one." I only listened to the last three words of her response! She now tells everyone how much smoother it rides than my Mustang.

Alot of guys thought that the C-6 was a C-5 1/2 because
they were similar.
But time march's on and the truth is that we own old vettes.
Some are 12 years old!!There are alot of low mileage vettes
out in the world but they are still old vettes. What do think
of your vette? Do you feel that you have a old car?
It maybe considered old by some, but quick honsetly, I think of mine as being new. Still smells new, paint looks new, (with the exception of the pollen) and rides new. Even some people think it is new.
I truthfully was in the search for a prestine low mileage C4, I love the look. But once I found this C5 on this forum for the deal I got it at, I couldn't refuse. After the body/paint work it has gone through, the beautiful chrome c6z06 wheels from JWmotoring and the new brakes/caliper job I did, this car has really really grown on me. It squeaks, rattles, and has some drivetrain noise here and there but those are the quirks I expect of an older car. The C5 is an awesome ride that many still think is brand new, I've been told once from a woman that mine was nicer then her husbands 2008.
