I really like the look of the 4" dual tip Borlas, but should i do the Stingers or go with the XR-1 system? Also, just wanting to make sure that the XR-1 system is street legal? From what i read, the XR-1 tips are 4 1/2", but some sites say they are 4", not sure which one is correct. I have a 2004 Convertible, its not a daily driver, mainly take it out 2 times a week or so, looking for that deep rumble at startup and idle and a mean sound when i lay into it. I heard alot about resonance, now thats like an annoying vibrating noise at certain RPM's in the interior mainly when the top is up? I rarely go out in it if i can't have the top down. Any info on these 2 systems is greatly appreciated.
I can't say much about the XR-1 system, but I love my Borla Stingers. The resonance is like a mild tuba sound but is noticable only during a very narrow RPM range and under load - like when you are cruising on the highway and start ascending a slight grade while in 6th gear. My 01 has pup-cats, so the resonance is reduced compared to newer or maybe older C5s.
The sound level is perfect for top or no-top driving and the tone is the best I've heard among many different brands (at dyno day events).
This is a completely biased post because I have the Borla Stingers dual tips. But for what it is worth I am very very happy with the purchase. I have a convertible as my daily driver, as far as the resonance is concerned, you can hear them but it is not that annoying fart can sound. It is the low growl of a fierce machine. At start up, I have made car alarms go off (especially in parking garages). When in idle I am rarely outside of the car but when I have been it sounds beautiful. But when you lay on it you will see heads turning in awe.
Now saying all that, I have not seen or heard the XR-1's so I cant speak for them. But I would definately say you will not be disappointed with the stingers.
Will i get the same results just putting the cat back on or do i need to do the x-pipe also? I'm not sure about doing the headers though, im not out looking to race, even though people always want to. Just looking for the look and the sound of the Borlas! The only thing i have done was put a different air intake on.
I have the stingers and those 4 boom holes do ****** your breath away when you really get on it. Right after I put mine on I had my wife rev it up good while I stood behind it and I swear to God my heart started pounding. The drone, at least on mine, was between 1500 and 1800 RPM which is where mine runs when cruising in top gear at highway speed. Spend another 250-300 bucks and pop on an X pipe while your at it and the drone as well as the motor boat put-put at idle goes away. Really happy with mine now.
Adding an exhaust like this wouldn't cause any codes or anything with the computer? I wouldn't think so, but you never know? Would you think about an hour for removal and installation? Thanks for all the help!
I don't think an hour will cut it.

It's for the full meal deal with LG longtubes and Borla stingers & X-pipe, but you can just pass over the parts on the header R/R if you're not going that route. (Great headers though if you want to just be done with the exhaust side forever) If you keep the stock headers you'll need to cut the existing H-pipe behind the sensors and slide the X-pipe on over that instead of over the headers as in the instructions.

Love my dual tips. Had only the Halltech filter and Borlas for awhile and the sound is great. Now that I have full headers I do get drone but you should get exactly what you want for "spirited non daily driving".
It will take a shop with a lift an hour to swap them out. Only flange 4 flange bolts and the 4 bolts that hold up the rear section. Check the F/S section regularly or post a Wanted add and you will be able to pick up a low miles set for a great price.
I love my Borla XR1 set up, but it is not for the faint of heart. It has more of the consistent deep tone lambo sound to it , rather than all the other choppy, gargling, and screaming exhausts out there. At certain rpms, the interior resonance is not good for a post-bachelor party hang over. My main love for the XR1 comes from the fact that there is no loop-dee-loop crap with the pipes after they sail over the over axle pipes - just straight out. So you can put on any tips you choose. I picked Borla CF tips. People can't stop staring and listening behind this
only bad point is, a long tube header set up is not feasible because of the interior resonance - but if you are not planning on that route, my vote goes to XR1.
I have Borla XR-1 and Stingers. I did this because I have AR 1 7/8
LTs w 3x2 1/2 catted X pipe and plan on putting a hi rpm ~400ci
motor and wanted to tame the noise at idle.Only a little drone under
load 1400-1600 pretty much gone by 1700 rpm.Love the looks of
2 tips, idle is deeper but only a little louder than stock,WOT (2500+) Awesome!

Is it that im just not seeing it because how far away or the angle and light that is present? Or are there different tips available for the duals?
