Default Never Modding again!!!!!!

Just like the title says........I should have trusted my gut. I took my 02z into get a cam and headers installed with a tune. Get a call that my lifters took a crap on start up after the install. The shop said this is not common but can happen. Ok.......I guess its possible. Get the car back almost a month later and eveything seemed great! Had the car for a couple weeks before a squeaking noise started comming from under the hood. Replaced the ac tensioner and both belts. Noise went away but the belt would start comming off......one rib....then two ribs. So I feel the crank bolt and its completely loose.

I called the shop that did the work and they said it just happens sometimes. They changed the crank bolt with a new one according to them when the did the work. It was suggested that I pin my crank this time around.

Now I never got a cam card with my car....just a box with numbers that don't match the cam I wanted. Car was a quart low when I got it home, and now this! I don't want to say who it was because maybe this stuff can happen.......I do have the worst luck. LOL.

So the moral of the story is I hope when this thing gets a new bolt, it stops leaking oil and can hold up to "normal" corvette driving.

Sounds like some bad luck or maybe find a different shop to have your work done. Modding is like the day after drinking to much. We all say "I'm never doing that again" and a few weeks later............

Damn that sucks to hear that. Dont feel to bad bro, my friend took his LS2 C6 vette to a guy up in lubbock to install a cam and an underdrive pulley. Shoot, when they finished up with the install, the motor completely shut off on him after driving it for like 2 hours on the interstate on his way home. Come to find out, the idiot who put the cam on, didnt put the oil pump on right and completely fried the main bearings and the cam bearings. He paid like $1600 for that cam install, shoot i could of damaged his motor for free. To top it off, the shop who did the install didnt even try to make things right by fixing cause they said it wasnt their fault. Anyway's his C6 vette is now at LG motorsports waiting to see if his motor is still rebuildable or if he's gonna have to order a new LS2 crate engine.

New factory bolts come with loctite on them. You are supposed to use a new bolt every time the old one is removed, unless, you use an aftermarket one.

Probably the smartest thing he has done. LGM will do it right the 1st time GUARENTEED!! He will "pay".. but it will be right. LG is the only ones to touch my C5Z... Did he have the initial work done @ TSP? you said Lubbock???

To the "OP"... Brother.. i am sick for ya... Nothing worse than having your hopes up, anticipating getting your "Z" back just to be let down because some chicken **** shop has no integrity! $$ is hard enough to come by itself.. I am getting ready to do a H/C install on my car as well.. However, i will be replacing EVERYTHING on the top of the motor... to include lifters... Keep us posted on your progress/regress...

He told my there is no loctite on the threads.....but he showed me that there is this red stuff on the bottom of the bolt head that is supposed to "bite" when torqued to spec.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience! There are yahoos like that all over! When I had my car at the Chevy dealership for inspection prior to buying it they could not notice the obvious rear tt coupler clunking! Where I live they are just the opposite they notice that things that are good even need to be replaced!
Never take your baby to the dealership unless it is under warranty! Always take your baby to a trusted shop even if ya gotta travel or do it yourself! The guys on this forum can surely recommend someone. Good luck!

I am one of the most understanding people out there but I can't help but feel like I am being taking advantage of. I know these guys know their stuff but feel like since I am the new guy commin in they think I have deep pockets. They were recommended and thats why I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but with all of these things going wrong I am just sick. I know things can happen when modding but all this at once on a car with such low milage that has been well maintained....

I am just disappointed and probably shouldn't have started this thread but I had to vent.

No it wasnt TSP in Lubbock. It was a couple of dudes that work for (Name Removed as irrelevant) lubbock. They do work on the side their in lubbock. As a matter of fact they post threads every now and then on the C6 forum. Their screen name is Gecteck. The weird thing is that they did good work on my friends LS2 GTO, but totally screwed up on my other friends C6 vette. But at least my buddie now knows that LG Motorsports will do their work professionally right. I know he's excited to hear from them soon. His C6 vette has been broken down for like two months. To top it off its his only car to get around.

As a fellow Z owner, also from Illinois, I would love to know the name of the shop. I wanted to get some work done soon and this is one shop i want to avoid. There are crappy speedshops out there. Thankfully not too many. But I would apprieciate it the name of this place.

I've had some bad luck too, even with good/reputable shops. What will make a difference is how the shop tries to make things right. It sucks to have a broken performance car...

Probably a good thing to check here for a good shop BEFORE getting any work done. Lots of good shops to be found on the Forum.
