Default Quick question about roll bars for C5Z

I have a 2001 Z06 and I'm about to purchase a roll bar off a guy.. Not that I don't believe him but I asked if it was for a hard top(z06/frc) or a coupe, he said it doesn't matter as long as the rear bars are bent and not straight.. I could have sworn that they were completely different but I could be wrong. BTW it's a Wolfe 6 point. LMK what you guys think..

THANKS

Rear bars must be straight for the roll bar to do any good.

Dont buy any bent bars, Main hoop or rear down bars

Default Bent bars.......

Its my understanding that NHRA requires the roll bars/ cage to be welded to the frame or at least a combination of weld/bolt-in .

I have installed several of Wolfe's bolt-in 4 point cromoly roll bars ( mostly for show) in the FRC/Z06 models which are very similar to the 6 point and I don't know how one would fit a straight rear supports to hardtop C5.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...t-in-cage.html

I've not seen any roll cage that did not have bent main hoop.

Either the straight or bent bar Wolfe cages will work in an FRC/Z06. I had the straight bars in my old FRC and my friend had the bent rear bars in his FRC. Looking back, the bent bars are probably the better way to go for an FRC since you will still have room to run a partition.

FRC and Z06 are the same hardtop body option. I have a 5pt Wolfe with bent bars and swingout in mine.

Call Wolfe or go to their website that lists the rol bars / roll cages and their applications. I left the link to Wolfe on post #3

Specs depend on what you want to do with the car. If you are going to do time trials in SCCA the bent rear support bars will not pass tech. Road Race roll bars for most all sanctioning bodies require a diagonal support from the drivers head area to the passenger floor area and straight rear support bars.

Well im only getting it so when I go to my local drag strip for test & tune, they dont hastle me too much. Im probably never going to enter a big event so im not worried about being 100% legal.. I will never road race the car b/c I am not into that!!

One thing I am worried about, is you guys saying that roll bars are useless in C5's b/c the floor being so weak... The kit I am buying is a weld-in but from what I understand, there not "really" weld in... Im confused, lol

Not towards the OP in any way, but I just think its funny how there are so many people out there with roll bars, fire extinguishers etc, who put 3,000 miles on their car and drive 64 on the freeway...

What's so funny? You mean funny like the guy who has a car that can top out at 178 mph? Like where does this guy go where he needs that kind of speed? Or the garage queen that has 650hp with a blower and does 0-60 3.2 seconds. Or the deaf owner ( he wasn't deaf till he got the system installed)of an 3000 watt audio system?

It's call excess and its the American way! Just as I Have Z rated tires that will never see 90 mph. I install roll bars in many of my cars (i.e '87 GN, Mustang GT 350, 2000 FRC, 2001 Z06, ect) some are welded and some are bolt-in but they are mostly for show.

Anyone that is serious about racing will go to the sanctioning rule book and decide from there. There are so many secondary local race tracks that don't follow the tech inspections of NHRA, IHRA, ADRL. PSCA ( Pacific Street Car Association) in southern California / Nevada/ Arizona is much is rigid than the Big Three.

Only reason I want a roll bar is so when I do go to the track, I don't get kicked out.. My local track isn't horribly strict when it comes to rules, but my car that "should" go high 9's will need atleast a 6 point, fire jacket and helmet.. Now I only put about 3k-5k miles a year now.. I just want it for safetly and I also think it looks badass in a badass car!!
