[Z06] How much does your stripped Z weigh?
I'm very tempted to buy a Z06, and I do realise it's already been designed to be as light as possable, and are a great car as standard. Now in comparision to some other cars, it's still 400 LB heavier.
Who's stripped out a C5 Z06 to lose significant weight, and what did you to lose to get there? How much weight can be lost?
(I checked the stickey, and saw the list
). Is there really 50LB of options I could lose, and do non-pop ups really weigh 40LB less?
I guess I'm looking for a more extensive list of weight reduction stuff with weights included if there is one........
Cheers for the imput
Remove carpet
Remove door pannles
Remove air bags and air bag frame
Remove and replace steering wheel
Remove radio, and AC controls
Remove seats, replace with light wt seat ( 1 )
Remove windshield washer tank and fluid
Remove door glass and motors
Remove, hood hinges and use hood pins
Replace hood with carbon fiber hood
Remove front light assemblies
Replace battery with 12 lb light wt battery
Still hard pressed to break 3000 lbs
But good luck

For each 1 pound of rotational weight removed is ~ 6.5 pounds of static wt removed.
Wheels keep the wheel wt as low as possible. wheel and tire combo in low to mid 40 lbs each
Fly wheel and clutch both light wt.
Each 100 lbs total or 15 1/2 lbs rotating wt removed is ~ 10 hp more & 1/10 sec quicker in the quarter.
The types of cars I'm compairing to are TVR, Ultima, RX7, Lotus etc.
I know the best way to up power to weight ratio is with power adders, and I'd likely do them later on.
If I can get the Z down 200 LB in weight, then hp/LB would be evil with some n2o...
Thanks for all the sugestions for stuff to remove, but I thought the Z06 wheels and seats were about as light as they can be?
I also thought a standard Z06 was 3115 LB ? (obviously varies a bit with options etc)
I know the best weight to lose is unsprung, but with non-run flat tires, Z06 rims and titanium rotors, is there any other unsprung weight to lose? I know a lot of F-body guys swap stuff like A-arm to chromoly to reduce some weight, is there much stuff like this out there to cut some weight off the Z?
I'd remove most stuff like HUD, AC, stereo, passenger seat, carpets, AIR, options, and swap to some titanium rotors, Carbon fiber hood, LT and X, aluminum pulley (worth it?), lightweight battery, flywheel, clutch, . Think it will make much difference for track racing?
DD56, now that's stripped, but I'd like it to run too lol!
Thanks for all your info

I'd love to see a Vette that weighed 2200 pounds, didn't need power steering and went like stink, but that's just not realistic if you are starting from a C5. I guess that you could do things like aluminum half shafts and stuff like that, but that's expensive for what you get in reduced weight.
Some folks stuff a LS motor in a RX-7 and that works because the 7 is about 400 pounds less than a Z.... If you really wanted to get crazy with weight, you could start with a C6Z and try to lighten it up, being that the frame is aluminum and there is more glass to replace with plastic, it might have more potential. Add to that the fact that it has a lot more power to start with and the pwr/weight ratio gets a lot better.
Another problem is that you really need to try to lighten up the front end of the car as much as possible. These cars can barely put down the power they have now in first gear and if you lighten it up in the back any at all, you lose traction...
As Big Daddy Don Gartlits used to say:
"It gets hard to add in any more lightness"
And yes, the C5 Z06 has a published curb weight of ~3,118 lbs.
)I was hoping there was more suff that could be swapped out, but the price of ti rotors those 'super' light wheels really do make it a waste of time and money.
I keep reading different opinions on if the stock z seats are worth swapping out for a weight loss. I guess it's to do with the brackets and slider mechanism, but some say the stock seats weight 20 LB, and others say 40/45 LB, that's quiet a difference in opinion

Guess I'll have to weigh mine to decide for sure

I've read even an aftermarket pulley is heavier than the stock piece!
Thanks for the info
The car is pretty much stock except for:
- LG coilovers
- DBA 5000 2 piece front rotos
- michelin PS2 tires
