Are Michelin Pilot Sport run flats as hard riding as GY f1's?

Do you recommend using Michilen pilot sport non-run flats with a can of tire repair in the trunk to improve ride?

Made the switch some time ago & the Michelin's seem to me to be better riding & much quieter. I thought about switching to none run-flats but wanted to stay with the comfort level of the run-flats. Good luck!

No experience with the Michelin runflats, but I did run a set of the Firestone Firehawk runflats on my '00 - excellent tire IMO. Better ride, handling and much less noise than the Goodyears.

If you are running a set of tire pressure sensors, I would not use a can of the fix-a-flat stuff - it can damage the sensors. If you want non-runflats, just get a plug kit, portable air compressor and a suitable jack and use that. Of course, emergency road service and a cell phone helps too.

Also, keep in mind that a typical runflat tire will weigh 6 lbs more than a non-runflat. Any unsprung weight you add will detract from the ride; subsequently, any weight you can subtract (and that includes wheel weight) will improve the ride.

The quickest way to destroy the ride (and your kidneys) is to buy giant wheels that weiigh 10-20 lbs more. The latest runflats are certainly better than the OEM Goodyear runflats but neither will ever be as good as equal-sized non-runflats when it comes to ride and in many cases, handling. I run Goodyear GSD3 non-runflats. They are by far the best tires I have ever purchased - far better than any runflats I have had.

I put a set of Michelin A/S ZP's on the car 4+ years ago. The difference was immediate. The car was much, much quieter and rode a heck of a lot better. I will be buying another set some time this year.

I just purchased Michelin AS ZP Pilot Plus tires a few weeks ago. What a difference from the GY run flats. The noice is much less and ride is so much smoother. Go for it.

I have the Michelin Pilot Sport run flats on my 2001 and they are far better all around than the Good Years.

I just put Michelin A/S run flatsZP) on my 02 coupe and they are great, recommend them. I just wish they made run flats for the C5 Z06. Just put on some Bridgestone Potenza RE760 sports (non run flays) and they are much better than the GY SC tires that came on it. When you puchase tires for 3 vehicles, two of which are vettes, the money flys out the window. But you gotta have good tires.

I have had two sets of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZPs (2nd set are plus models). When I got my '01 it had 13K on the original set of F1 Eagle EMTs. They were getting hard and noisy as I started to put a few miles on them and swapped that set at about 14.5K.

The point is I don't know how a brand new set of F1 Eagle EMTs compares to a brand new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZPs.

My guess is pretty close to the same. The Michelin's have a wear rating of 500 which will take them theoretically to 45,000 miles, while the Goodyear's have a 300 wear rating.

Therefore, the Goodyears will wear out sooner and thus you will hit the hard rubber much quicker than the Michelins, UNLESS you opt for the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZPs which have a similar comparison to the OEM Goodyear F1 Eagle EMTs, in both cases about a 300 wear rating.

People, you cannot take a worn out set of UHP/MP tires have a new set installed and proclaim they are so much quieter and stick better. Of course they will, comparing a brand new tire to a worn out tire!

After two sets of Michelin's when this set goes I'm probably going back to the OEM tire. I'm not fully sold on the PS2 ZPs and I really like the fit, form and function of the OEM tire. I'm not so much worried about the freezing temperatures living in FL.

I went from runcraps to Goodyear F1 D3's. What a difference. Much nicer and quiter ride. I just picked up a tire inflator kit from tire rack that is compatible with our wheel sensors.

Unfortunately they discontinued that model. I ran the GS-D3s on my C4.

100%

I always get a kick out of reading the customer reviews on Tirerack. They usually go something like, "these are the smoothest, best handling, best riding tires I've ever had..." Then you look at the number of miles on the tires when the review was submitted and it's usually somewhere between 100 and 1000, which makes it a worthless review/opinion (to me anyway). Tell me about your tires when you've hit at least the 10,000 mile mark.

completely ! People always compare their worn out tires to brand new tires, not fair, but hard to resist.

I am on my 3rd set of Goodyear OEM Runflats. I get 55,000 miles from fronts and 45,000 miles from rears. Remember, the treadwear number is COMPANY set, not standardized. You can not compare one manufacturers number to another. I have gotten 70,000 miles from a 400 rating Goodyear tire.

I have a set of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZPs waiting at home. Soon as I get out of this sandbox, they are going on my 03. My pefrence for buying them was that I read on here numerous times they are better than the GY RF's. I wanted run flats because it is going to be my daily driver when I get home and we plan on doing some long distance traveling with it.
