Default add a DIY thread section?

do u think we could get the mods to add a do it yourself section. i think that it would be great to just click on "C5 DIY" and have all these detailed write ups with pictures that people have done. what do you guys think of this.

Do you mean like this one? There's lots of neat stuff to find in the C5 Tech DIY sticky...

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...with-pics.html

If you haven't done so yet, read the sticky topics on the top of each forum for lots of information. And FYI, you might read the Rules section on the main menu page. Suggestions like this have merit, but the admin/moderators prefer you run it by them first...

ya ive seen diy threads all over general and tech but actually have a topic like how we have general, tech, scan and tune, fi/nitrous, etc but have a topic that is "C5 DIY" a topic where everyone who does a write up can post threads in the topic just to consolidate them all, make them easier to find, and to also have more topics, i am on here daily and it just doesnt seem like there are enough topics. i would love to be able to look around a DIY topic. where i can look around at the diy and bookmark them or use them to refer to things i can do myself.

I support this idea....years ago it wouldn't make sense, but the forum has grown so much the categories need to be revisited. I also support merging Tech and General...there are so many threads that fit either one it is downright ludicrous to try and fit them accordingly. Also, Tech doesn't get the attention General does and many threads started there get little or no response....I've had 2 this month that died there, but if I had posted them in General I would bet my next paycheck I would have gotten way more response. I was part of the original team that decided the categories back in 98, so I feel qualified to make this suggestion openly here. If there is enough support I will draft a proposal to the Admins who have accepted my ideas in the past e.g. the '10 year Member' milestone to name the most recent.

I think the sticky in the tech section should be updated more often and make sure it's up to date (the table of contents doesn't always match the post numbers)

It would be nice to have any thread deemed worthy to get a spot in the tech sticky. The sticky should also be renamed something that will catch a newbie's attention about DIY content inside.

I've heard that my thread about polishing aluminum was good, yet it has fallen into the abyss of time...

yeah I will take the blame for that one as I have not updated it and cleaned it up.

I don't see us getting a seperate section although I may pitch it to IB as the stickies tend to get overwhelming

the biggest problem I see is that members remove pics etc after time so the links are useless and the threads really need pics

I will try to get the existing one cleaned up and see where we can go from there

i am going to agree that there should be a diy section. i also agree that the general and tech section need to be merged. the tech section does not get enough attention. It can also be very difficult to find old write ups. a diy section would be very beneficial IMO.

I would have to respectfully disagree with a merge of General and Tech. There's to much OT material as it is now in General and combining the two would clog up the Tech topics with "I got another ticket" threads...

i think we should keep the general and tech seperate. but im glad to see people interested in this. just to make the corvette forum more user friendly. it already is easy to navigate. but you can always make it better

yeah you are probably right. personally, the tech section is my favorite. its just too bad that a lot of people with great knowledge don't always navigate to the tech section. if only there was something to increase the popularity of the tech section. Another big problem is that people post a lot of tech topics in the general section.
