Default Towing.... Seriously?

Hey Guys,

Is it possible to tow a 23' 6,000lbs boat with a 04 Z06? I do not own a Vette, I'm in the insurance business and today a guy tried to tell me that he could. I figured no one would know better then the die hards on here.

Plenty of horsepower and torque but there is no way a Corvette can do this without serious damage. I would think the tounge weight alone would bury the suspension thats if he didn't tear the chassis to apart.

Ask him to show you the owner's manual. It gives the specs.

Here is what my 2002 coupe owner manual says.

Otherwise it's just a person's opinion, perhaps based on personal experience.

Ya, I kept thinking about how there is no way a vette could even think about pulling it out of the water up the boat ramp.

He then tells me he has another trailer that he tows his snowmobiles behind during the winter. I asked him, "we're talking about your 04 Z06 right? Not a Tahoe or something?" I was expecting a camera crew to pop out and tell me I was on candid camera.

haha, I think that's a jetski trailer, not a 6000lbs 23' boat trailer. I know you can trailer things that are approx 1000 lbs, but really if you own a vette wouldn't you have enough cash to buy something a little more appropriate to pull your stuff?

I remember reading about a boat (20something feet I believe) that is for die hard vette guys and looks very similar to a C6 and in the magazine article they were towing it with a C6 Z. Is it possible to tow a 6000lb boat with a C5 Z... most likely, but would it be something that would have no reprecussions... No.

CAN you tow a boat with a Corvette? Sure. Just like you CAN haul lumber home from Home Depot on the roof of your car. It's just what happens after you try that becomes a problem.....

Even if you could tow 6000 pounds with a 3300 pound car, why would you want to. You wouldn't be able to stop it!

Whoahhhh!!! I could understand maybe towing a trailer with wheels/tires to autocross maybe, or some sort of car related competetion... and MAYBE a jetski if you are hardcore, but I couldn't imagine trying to pull that much weight with a vette.

No way I would ever attempt to tow something that heavy with a Vette.

Chevy made a Z04 truck he must thinking of. The drive train will pull it easy, But it will destroy the rear frame and suspention. I am a big guy 6'2 280 and I think the weight cap... is 500 lbs. My wife has to stay right at 120lbs or I will be over the limit. Well thats what I tell Her

I think you will be fine as long as you only need to move the boat a foot or two.
