RPM question
When i floor the gas pedal, rpm goes up to 3000-3500 and then it changes to higher gear. It doesnt go upto 5000 or 6000 rpm
how can i get maximum power from automatic transmision? Is there anyway i can redline using automatic transmission?

Is your traction system engaged? if so it will engage and make it shift earlier than set -

Try hitting it with the traction system disengaged

If not you can have it checked at a shop or you can get a Handheld Tuner and play with the shift points and firmness - which you will really enjoy with the A4

Do you have the 3.15 rear or 2.73 gears?
Thanks,Matt

That isn't right even for a stock setup.
My A4 will go to 5500 plus before it shifts.

My A4 is tuned so its different from stock but I do recall that if I put it to WOT prior to the tune it definitly shifted higher than 2000 - 3000 even prior to the tune.
Is it possible the car was "tuned" (not well) prior to you getting it? And nothing else going on right? No messages on DIC, no trouble codes etc . . .?

Again, not pointing this at you but more info is always better :-)When i floor the gas pedal, rpm goes up to 3000-3500 and then it changes to higher gear
I have 3.15 rear and corsa exhaust. Power wise it does realy good. it throws you back in seat but i was little concern about shifting point. I hardly see it going above 2000 rpm.
Check guage light was flashing on HUD but it was because of high tire pressure in my low profile tires.
So . . .now we have a modified (possibly tuned) A4 with 3.15 rear, low profile tires run at "high" pressure and we are not sure when its shifting (somewhere between 2000 and 3500) on a "hard" acceleration

Matt asked : Is your traction system engaged?
I asked : You are "hitting" it right? Not to cast any dispersions but if you were to roll on the power and not press it all the way it might shift at a much lower rpm than if you just rolled it on, like to the floor.
I'm not sure we coverd those questions?
If you dont want to beat on it you dont have to, you can turn off AH/TC (but even with it on mine shifts at high...sorry dont know number...but its up there..RPM) just to see if TC is retarding ignition due to excessive wheelspin (possibly due to high tire pressure) and thus holding rpm's down. And start at 20 mph if you want and "put the skinny pedal on the carpet". You dont have to jump on this car to get it to switch to the WOT tables (which would have it reving higher and shifting harder) but it has enough low end torque that if you halfheartedly press the pedal "almost all the way down" it may not think you're serious
and use the more conservative fuel trims and shift points/pressures.Just a thought.
Not sure what you mean by "high" tire pressure ? I hope you are not reading the max pressure on the side of the tire and inflating it to that? The pressure on the side that says max pressure is the pressure at which the tire can sustain the most weight (as in a heavy load), it is not recommended that you run that pressure. I have regular sized (stock sized Michelins) and I run at whats printed on the door, 30 psi cold and when I see this topic come up most people say thats what they use (and I have to assume many of them have larger lower profile tires than mine).
I doubt you are getting much perceptable wheelspin at 2000 - 3000 rpms even if they were over inflated but that doesnt mean its not happening. With slippery tires AH/TC will kick in quite quickly and hold the car back in every respect.
Good Luck

Answer: Yes it is engaged all the time

yes i press it all the way to carpet

Maximum air pressue on sidewall is 51. and i have kept 40 in all tires. They are 275/30/20 in rear and 245/30/20. I trued 30 psi but i damaged a wheel edge by hitting a pothole. 40 works just fine.

wheels size is 20" all around. they all have 30 profile. so i dont think there is height difference between front and rear. front wheels are skinier than real wheels tho. what to do?

You might have to get different tires for the front, Did you put the tires and wheels on the car?
