Default Help needed Factory paint code U855 ??????

My friend just bought a 2001 vert with a Factory paint code U8555 . G.M. does not list this color even as an option. The color is Onyx Black. Is this a rare color or did G.M. use this as a Test Mule.

Any info on this would be a great help.
Thanks, C5-JIM

Did you enter the 3rd "5" in your search? (U8555)

The paint code for black is 41U. Since you didn't print the whole label, I think it's the last number on the lower right in your picture.

The whole paint code is in the picture and it is not 41u.
The clear coat and base code is u8555.
Thanks, C5-JIM

You are correct, but wrong at the same time. That is not the code they use ,or at least used on the build sheet. They used the "WA" code, which is interchangeable with the "U"code, and is 8555. It is the same as my 98 was. I had to take that code to get paint to paint my spoiler. They used the same color/code black for all years 97-04

The Corvette Black Book lists the color as "Black". They made 2702 verts in this color, second only to the 2781 Torch Red verts.

Since 1985, Black on Corvettes shows a code of 41, however U8555 appears to be synonymous with the 41 code on everything from Camaros to Chevy trucks.

Hmmm, that 9th digit doesn't work with the VIN information I have. My info says it should be a "9" in there.

Strange...

The 9th digit is a check digit used to determine the validity of the entire 17 digit VIN number; it can be either a numeric or alpha character.

I tried the VIN on a number of different sites and the numeric 0 as the checksum does show a valid VIN with the car being a 2001 Corvette convertible.
