Default Possible to remove lower spoiler?

I want to make more clearance for this zo6. Anyone removed the black plastic spoiler guard ? It really is a pita. Scrapes all the time. Looks like 4 bolts and few torx screws. Any major purpose it serves that it would be bad if I took it off?

The center spoiler directs air into the radiator. It is spring loaded and designed to flip backwards if it hits an obstruction. If you bought the car used you might want to check and see if it was duct taped to keep it from flipping backwards at high speeds. That is one of the first things most track guys do to improve cooling at triple digit speeds as the air pressure at those speeds can flip it backwards.

Not sure why you are bothered by the scraping noise. The spoiler is designed to be replaced and the parts are low priced. Besides the car looks a little dorky without them.

Your car will most likely over heat with out them.

It's self leveling...it'll stop scraping eventually. It bothered me at first, now I think of it as an early warning system. I'd rather hear it scrape than my frame rails.

But it's your car...

Sometimes, if the side extensions have been torn, they will hang down and make them drag even more. You might solve the problem by just installing new air dams.

Just take some snips and cut off about 1/4" of it. Tri ma little more if it still scrapes. You wont notice any cooling differences most likely as I didnt after trimming 3/8" but you wont have to listen to the scraping anymore.

I'm lowered on stock bolts and I have only the center airdam installed. It runs cool, the side pieces have nothing to do with cooling.

The sides scraped everywhere and looked like hell. Finally, one of the side pieces tore off partially and was hangin'. Self trimming my azz.

I took the sides off, and the car's so low anyway it really has no negative effect on the appearance. Looks better than the saggin plastic on almost every c5.

Now when it scrapes I don't care as much since I know it's a tough spring loaded part that will snap right back.

I removed the side ones and left the main middle scoop. Since that one is springed back. IMO it looks much better and gives more clearance. I can't see those being that functional as the main one in the middle. I can't see any real difference in the car after removing them as far as heating or stability issues

jack stand, 7mm socket and about 2min and you will be back onto the road! I'm not sure about the car overheating without them, I would not take them off due to the lack of protection. If anything just remove the two outside pieces. phillips head screw driver and 7mm. i would leave the middle for sure!!!!!!!!!! don't cut it, just drag it down a little

Some experience overheating and others do not. Personally I would take off all three pieces and cut them down an inch or so.

When I did my Paxton I had to remove them, never put them back on and no issues!
