Default Trunk Liner

I have a 2004 Z06 with a trunk liner from West Coast Corvette. It is attached by velcro. In the summer months under extreme heat and humidity, the liner falls from the velcro. Does anyone have a "fix it" solution to alleviate this problem?
Thanks

At HOME DEPOT or LOWE'S find the "industrial strength" VELCRO. It's much more heavy duty than the regular. It's about 2" to 3" wide. It's also adhesive backed, but the adhesive is really sticky. This stuff will hold up hammers on a wall! I attached my BATTERY TENDER PLUS to one leg of my lift two years ago with the stuff. In spite of the heat in my shop during the summer, it's never failed.

The other option, if you're good at DIY, is to buy some extra hood insulation ribbed plastic fasteners. Drill maybe 4 to 6 holes (be careful you're only drilling into the reinforcement ribs) and attach the trunk lid cover with the ribbed fasteners.

Contact or look up forum member DeeGee, he has a great solution for a fix. I'll add one little tip for his fix, wrap the drill bit with tape so you don't drill to deep.

Guys...thanks so much. I believe that the black sheet metal screws may be the way to go. If I recall, I had replaced the velcro at least once with the heavy duty stuff from Lowes. So I am a bit skeptical as to its longevity.

I just checked, and what had happened is the velcro on the trunk lid had come loose. I pressed it back on, and we'll see what happens. Tomorrow I'll be at Lowes getting the screws.

Thanks again for the tips

I have a similar problem with mine falling down in the southern Az summer heat. I have the industrial strength velcro and it is fine until the 100+ days arrive. I'm going the black sheet metal screw route this time around.

No use gorilla glue. The only thing that held mine in and has never fallen. Did not want to screw mine it. You see the screws.. Just me to cents.

I had the same problem then made it a 3 piece liner. I think it looks better and so far it's staying in place. I followed this write up by GWurst.

Its a double skin so the secret is to make sure you dont push too hard and only drill into the first section.

I've copied the How To I posted when I made mine. Like you the weight of the liner made it impossible to get the glue to hold and velcro was pulling off. A lighter liner may have been easier to fix

I went with the push pins.

DIY Trunk Lid Liner.

I'd been seeing the trunk lid liners on some of the members Vettes but being a good Yorkshireman, the $150 price tag seemed a bit steep. I had a bit of a DIY morning and made one up myself

Parts:

A sheet of pegboard - Home Depot $3
A roll of black car carpet from Walmart - $8
Spray Glue - Lowes $4
Fastners – Autozone $4

Tools:

Steel ruler
Staple gun and staples
Drill, sanding disk and cutting disk
Sanding block and sandpaper
Measuring tape

I made a template from some wrapping paper and transferred it to cardboard. I then used the template to cut the pegboard shaping the edges to make it fit the space using a rotary cutting disc. You should trim enough to give a small gap to allow for the thickness of the carpet. Glue the carpet to the pegboard leaving a 2" strip. Fold that over the edges and staple around the edge after priming with the spray on glue. You may wish to fix velcro to the V Channels on the inside of the trunk lid. This will not hold the weight and the studs are essential. It may hold the liner in place a little better but add to the cost.

Mark positions for the studs carefully. Drill holes through the liner into the V Frame. The stud pushes through and fits tightly into the frame behind. There are 2 studs at the top and 2 at the bottom.

Most Important: Be very careful not to press too hard and drill through the trunk lid

The finished item:

The logo was embroidered by my wife. You could buy the commercial GM logo but that would add to the cost.

An enhancement may be to fit some foam blocks at the lower outer corners. This would prevent some minor flexing.

I had the exact same problem. I used four of those ribbed fasteners and carefully aligned and drilled the holes. Actually looks like an OEM fix and has never fallen off since. As mentioned, wrapping the drill bit with tape is an excellent idea to prevent the bit from going too far (and coming out the outside of your trunk).

I used 3M VHB tape to attach the velcro. I've had no problems.

I find velcro to be almost useless.
