This is the exception, not the norm......pretty soon the C5 will be just like every other Honda Civic owned by a teenager......
Your pics of the "exceptions" are show cars, look at the license plates. Even the Lambo with the TX is parked with other display cars around it. Nice try.
What the Hell do you care what someone else does to their car ? Seriously, don't you have anything better to do ?

I just don't understand why the "blackout craze"....IMHO it cheapeans the look of the car, it is a safety issue, and it is against the law.
Let's see what else JC Whitney sells to put on Corvettes.....may I suggest a big "ironing board" rear spoiler.....chrome fender wells.....how bout some Landau bars!!! Yeah, thats the ticket......
but I guess if that is what is going to make you happy.

Maybe he doesnt understand that everyone is into something different.
Seems like he has blinders on but what can you do. I myself can have our custom spray tinted lights but im not into them at all so I left my Euro's as is but here are some examples of our painted lights anyway...I know they suck
I don't have a problem if the "blackouts" are used for show or off road use only.
The problem is that we preach not to race these cars on the street because of safety concerns yet we think it is okay to alter DOT approved (yes, look at the DOT stamp on your lenses) in the name of looks.
My big beef is we compromise safety for looks........that's really my big issue.

We sand the DOT stamp off the lights so I think we are ok
Just make sure to upgrade the bulbs,,, dark tint and stock bulb can be hazardous,,especially in bright sun!! Other than that HAVE FUN!!! Best bet would be to get some bright LED's to compensate!!
so what are your thoughts on brighter bulbs? are they safer because you can see them sooner or unsafe because they have been altered? what if you add brighter bulbs to tinted lens? what about slightly tinted? there are way too many variables to make a blanket judgment.

Really? I have had tinted lights on my vehicles since 2000 and not once have i EVER been rearended!
as for the pictures i had posted, those were just 5 of the many thousands of photo's i've seen with EXOTICS with tinted lights.
As for your comments about teenagers and vette's thats a very ignorant comment to make your ***umption that teenagers have no taste is incorrect. In fact some of the worst vettes i have ever seen in my life were moddified by much older gentlemen who think everything tack on chrome looks good.

I'm sorry sir but you fail!
The reason they are illegal is because they do not have the DOT required reflective materials that stock OEM rear tail lights have. The simple test is will your headlights reflect off the rear lens when the car is parked with no lights on. Most black out kits do not have built in reflectors. ILLEGAL and a Safety Hazard.
Lets say for arguments sake that I wanted to modify my taillights. I want to put One (1) Red LED light the size of a pencil eraser in place of my stock lights. It lights up red when I hit my brakes so for all intensive purposes "works". Is this legal and safe? NO. But as your arguements state, it is my car so I can do with it what I want, right? WRONG. Why? cause it is ILLEGAL.
if start looking at all the laws across all the states, you'll find just about everything you mod is illegal. tint, exhaust, lowering, air intake, HID headlights. so hope you have a bone stock vette if you're coming here saying these things.

You really are rather clueless as to what the different blackouts are.
Most blackouts are:
Stock lights (with reflectors) that are tinted
Stock lights (with reflectors) that have a tinted acrylic plate over them
Stock lights (with reflectors) that have a tinted vinyl stick on applied
Stock lights (with reflectors) that have LED in place of stock bulbs and tinted
Notice anything in common??? 99.9% are all stock with the reflectors in place. I've yet to see any that do not reflect red when a light is directed at them.

The picture of the Lambo is at a car show, there's a Toyota Camry in the background, you don't go to car shows? Also tinting breaklights are not illegal everywhere, here in Illinois law says that lights must be visible from a minimum distance of 500 feet and the spray that i used does still let the reflections from the lenses through, all products are not the same and laws are different everywhere.
